The Lebo Light wishes to express our
sincere condolences to the families that
have lost a loved one recently.
Lisa Miller Detrick, 47, passed away
unexpectedly on December 19, 2014 in Sterling,
VA. She was born in Emporia, KS on December
22, 1967 to Rodney Miller and Janice (Lewis)
Allen. She is survived by two daughters, Abigail
(Bowers) O’Neill and husband Liam, California
and Hannah Detrick, Idaho; brother, R. Scott
Miller and wife Christie, Emporia, KS; maternal
grandmother, Marjorie Lewis and aunt, Janet
Lewis, both of Lebo; and her father, Rodney, IA.
She was preceded in death by her mother on July
13, 2014.
Rex M Bishop, 83, of Lebo died Wednesday,
December 3, 2014 at Council Grove, Ks. He was
born January 28, 1931 at Lamar, Ks to Cecil and
Pauline Standolf Bishop. He joined the army
during the Korean War and served two years. He
was married on June 10, 1954 to Earline M.
Gordine.
He is survived by a daughter, Kim Vering of
Salina, Ks and his companion of many years,
Pauline (Joan) Burkhart of Cottonwood Falls. He
was preceded in death by a son, Ronald R.
Bishop, his parents, a brother and sister.
Lois L. Barnett, 83, passed away January
5, 2015 at her home in Lebo. She was
born July 24, 1931 to Robert and Bessie
Briggs. She was married to Robert F.
Barnett November 12, 1950. She is
survived by her son, Greg Barnett;
daughters, Sharon Hampton and Sherry
Shipley.
Doris Freund, 91, passed away Saturday,
January 10, 2015 at the Sunset Manor in
Waverly. She was born April 8, 1923 in Waverly,
Ks to Earl J. and Ella A. Huseman Bennett. She
graduated in 1941 from Burlington High School.
During the 1940’s and early 1950’s, she taught
in several one-room schools in Coffey County.
Eugene F. Freund and Doris were married
February 16, 1947 in Emporia, Ks. They moved
to Lebo shortly after their marriage. Eugene died
on September 29, 1993. Doris remained in Lebo
until 2007 when she moved to Waverly.
Survivors include her two sons,
Galen D. Freund of Lebo and Alan E.
Freund and wife Denelle of Oakton,
VA, plus three granddaughters and
two great granddaughters. She was
preceded in death by her parents
and a brother, Malcolm Bennett.

If you receive a state income tax
refund, you’ll find an easy way to
support the Meals on Wheels program
in Kansas. The Meals on Wheels
Check-off, found on the K-40 individual
income tax form offers taxpayers an
opportunity to earmark part of their tax
refund to Meals on Wheels. Refund
contributions may help your friends
and neighbors who benefit from this
important service.
Many people are unaware that a
Vision Card (Food Assistance) can be
used to make a donation either for a
meal at a nutrition site or for a home
delivered meal.
Mid-America Nutrition Program uses
a fleet of cargo vans to transport food
from the central kitchen in Ottawa and
a kitchen in Pleasanton to each of the
25 dining centers and for rural home
deliveries. The fleet travels
approximately 700 miles per day.
Thanks to a couple of grants received
recently, we have been able to replace
two vans in the fleet this year. Both of
these vans had traveled over 200,000
miles.
Mid America Nutrition Program will
be holding its third annual fundraising
pie auction on Saturday, March 14,
2015 at 6:30 pm at Sacred Heart
Church in Ottawa. We will also be
auctioning KU and K-State signed
items. Donations are tax deductible
and this is a fun and very tasty event!
The Lebo Senior Center has tickets

Donations of basic food and personal items are always welcome and cash
donations are used to order from the Kansas Food Bank each month. Items can
be dropped off at Baptist Church.
