are numerous factors listed. Some examples are:<br />

the degree to which the proposed collecti<strong>on</strong>, use or disclosure is necessary to<br />

CHCB's functi<strong>on</strong>s or activities;<br />

any likely benefits to individuals or the wider community that will arise from the<br />

research; <strong>and</strong><br />

the st<strong>and</strong>ards of c<strong>on</strong>duct that are to be observed in the research, including the<br />

procedures or c<strong>on</strong>trols that will apply to ensure that participants are treated<br />

with integrity <strong>and</strong> sensitivity, <strong>and</strong> whether access to health in<str<strong>on</strong>g>for</str<strong>on</strong>g>mati<strong>on</strong> is<br />

adequately restricted to appropriate pers<strong>on</strong>nel involved in c<strong>on</strong>ducting the<br />

proposed study.<br />

Once the REC has engaged in this balancing process, it will make a decisi<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> notify<br />

you. For proposals that are approved <strong>and</strong> go ahead, the REC will m<strong>on</strong>itor the c<strong>on</strong>duct<br />

of the research project as required by NHMRC guidelines.<br />
