<strong>Prospectus</strong> <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>2012</strong><br />
The <strong>University</strong> offers M.Phil and Ph.D programmes in Anatomy, Physiology,<br />
Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Haematology and<br />
Human Genetics. It has launched, for the first time in Pakistan, Master’s degree<br />
programmes in Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology and Bio-Medical Engineering.<br />
UHS is research-intensive. Its ethos from its beginning has been to produce highly<br />
relevant research that solves real health problems and improve people’s quality of life.<br />
An extensive on-campus research is going on in more than 200 different areas including<br />
various diseases such as asthma, diabetes, tuberculosis, typhoid, infertility, environmental<br />
pollution, various types of cancer, genetic disorders, consanguinity, developmental<br />
abnormalities, metabolic syndromes, hepatitis B & C, and liver and renal disorders.<br />
<strong>University</strong> has high-tech labs equipped with most modern equipment. To encourage<br />
research at undergraduate level, the university has introduced a Research Award Scheme.<br />
Under this scheme those brilliant students are awarded cash prizes who carry-out various<br />
research projects in their colleges.<br />
The real pride of the university is its high- security, high- fidelity, reliable and<br />
transparent examination system which has been adjudged by international academic<br />
visitors as ‘envy’ of any western university. UHS is a member of International Database<br />
for Enhanced Assessment and Learning (IDEAL) Consortium and shares its question<br />
bank with UK, Australia, Hong Kong, China, Canada, New Zealand, and South Africa.<br />
There is no culture of postponement of examinations, holding of additional or special<br />
supplementary examinations and award of grace marks under any circumstances. To<br />
eliminate bias, favoritism and victimization and to ensure justice and fair-play, the<br />
university has introduced Objective Structured Performance Evaluation (OSPE) in viva<br />
voce, practical and clinical examinations.<br />
The <strong>University</strong> is recognized by World <strong>Health</strong> Organization (WHO), General<br />
Medical & Dental Councils of United Kingdom, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council<br />
and Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. It has developed academic linkages with<br />
top universities of the world including Texas <strong>University</strong>, USA; Duke <strong>University</strong>, USA;<br />
<strong>University</strong> of Pittsburgh, USA; Muenster <strong>University</strong>, Germany; Reim <strong>University</strong>, France;<br />
Nottingham <strong>University</strong>, UK; Royal College of Physicians, UK; Xi’an Jiatong <strong>University</strong>,<br />
China; and Centre for Disease Control (CDC), Atlanta, USA. In 2009, UHS and<br />
