“We’re awed by St. Mary’s
commitment and
dedication to serving
others…St. Mary
supports the health of
the entire community
by helping those
most in need.”
INDEPENDENCE
BLUE CROSS
Charitable Medical Care Grant Program
To help St. Mary Community Health Ministries further
its mission of caring for uninsured women and children
in Bucks County, Independence Blue Cross (IBC), awarded
a $225,000 grant to St Mary’s Mother Bachmann Maternity
Center in 2005.
With more than 350 births at Mother Bachmann Maternity
Center each year, the busy center will use IBC’s grant to
hire another midwife and expand its hours of operation.
St. Mary already has used some of the funding to buy a
van to transport patients from the clinic to St. Mary Medical
Center for specialist care.
The IBC Charitable Medical Care Grant Program provides
financial support to nonprofit, privately funded clinics in
southeastern Pennsylvania that provide free or low-cost
care to the area’s uninsured. The grant is a three-year
financial commitment that may be used for general
operating expenses, unfunded pharmaceutical needs,
medical supplies, specialty care, diagnostic tests, or other
areas that are critical to the clinic’s delivery of care. Since
2004, IBC has dedicated nearly $4.7 million to 25 clinics
throughout the region. IBC expanded the program in 2006
and will set aside up to $2 million per year through 2010
for a total of $10 million committed to help area programs.
“We’re awed by St. Mary’s commitment and dedication
to serving others and honored to help by providing a grant,”
says IBC President and CEO Joseph A. Frick. “St. Mary
makes enormous contributions to the physical and spiritual
well-being of those it serves, but the impact goes further —
the center supports the health of the entire community
by helping those most in need.”
