Turning to <strong>the</strong> open door behind him,<br />
Bralok shouts to <strong>the</strong> gorillas waiting<br />
below.<br />
BRALOK:<br />
Guards! Up here! The fugitives are up<br />
here!<br />
NARRATOR:<br />
Tamarain, in a fury, seizes an ancient<br />
pistol, fires a single shot and Bralok falls<br />
dead in his tracks. Then, turning to <strong>the</strong><br />
fugitive, Tamarain shouts - -<br />
TAMARAIN:<br />
Come quick! Through here!<br />
(SOUND <strong>of</strong> echoing footsteps running)<br />
NARRATOR:<br />
Leading <strong>the</strong>m behind <strong>the</strong> pulpit, he<br />
points to a stairway carved out <strong>of</strong> stone.<br />
TAMARAIN:<br />
Follow those stairs to <strong>the</strong> top <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
mountain. Go down <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r side and<br />
you will find safety in <strong>the</strong> forst beyond.<br />
VIRDON:<br />
Aren't you coming with us<br />
TAMARAIN:<br />
It is forbidden for any Delphi to<br />
approach <strong>the</strong> top <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> mountain, home<br />
<strong>of</strong> Ytrebil.<br />
BURKE:<br />
Ytrebil<br />
TAMARAIN:<br />
God <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mountain, Protector <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Delphi. My trust is in him. It is written<br />
that in <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> our greatest danger,<br />
Ytrebil will speak and our enemies will<br />
be destroyed. Go! Now!<br />
(SOUND <strong>of</strong> footsteps leaving)<br />
(SOUND <strong>of</strong> wind as <strong>the</strong>y exit)<br />
NARRATOR:<br />
Emerging in <strong>the</strong> light at <strong>the</strong> top <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
mountain, <strong>the</strong> three friends peer<br />
cautiously over <strong>the</strong> edge. Far below,<br />
Urko, flushed with a sense <strong>of</strong> victory,<br />
shouts to his <strong>of</strong>ficers.<br />
URKO:<br />
Destroy <strong>the</strong> Delphi to <strong>the</strong> last man,<br />
woman and child. But I want those<br />
fugitives ALIVE!<br />
BURKE: Nice guy...<br />
GALEN:<br />
Pete! Allen! Look!<br />
VIRDON:<br />
What is it<br />
GALEN:<br />
Over here. That metal, gleaming in <strong>the</strong><br />
sun; It must be...<br />
(SOUND <strong>of</strong> gun shots)<br />
BURKE:<br />
Uh oh! They've spotted us. Let's get out<br />
<strong>of</strong> here!<br />
VIRDON:<br />
Down <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r side...<br />
BURKE:<br />
Wait a minute! Alan, look at this!<br />
VIRDON:<br />
It's a huge, ancient bell.<br />
GALEN:<br />
I estimate <strong>the</strong> weight at about 2,000<br />
pounds, with a rim diameter <strong>of</strong> about 12<br />
feet.<br />
.<br />
VIRDON:<br />
Some kind <strong>of</strong> inscription around <strong>the</strong><br />
rim...can't quite make it out. Looks like...<br />
(SOUND <strong>of</strong> rumbling)<br />
BURKE:<br />
What's that<br />
GALEN:<br />
The mountain is shaking! All that<br />
gunfire.<br />
BURKE:<br />
Yeah. Must have set <strong>of</strong>f an earthquake or<br />
something. If we don't move fast...<br />
VIRDON:<br />
Pete! I've got it! It say...<br />
BURKE:<br />
For heaven's sakes, Alan!<br />
VIRDON:<br />
Listen! "Proclaim Liberty". Pete, you get<br />
it The God <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Mountain, Ytrebil, it's<br />
- -<br />
(SOUND <strong>of</strong> a big bell)<br />
(SOUND <strong>of</strong> an avalanche)<br />
BURKE:<br />
Galen! Alan! Quick! Down here.<br />
NARRATOR:<br />
With <strong>the</strong> mountain crumbling away,<br />
almost beneath <strong>the</strong>ir feet, <strong>the</strong>y race down<br />
<strong>the</strong> side, reaching <strong>the</strong> safety <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> forest,<br />
just as <strong>the</strong> proud home <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Delphi,<br />
with a final convulsive roar, dissolves<br />
into a massive heap <strong>of</strong> rubble, buried<br />
beneath a towering cloud <strong>of</strong> dust.<br />
VIRDON:<br />
Good lord!<br />
BURKE:<br />
Are you sure we didn't just DREAM<br />
<strong>the</strong>re was a mountain <strong>the</strong>re a few<br />
minutes ago<br />
VIRDON:<br />
If it was a dream, <strong>the</strong>n it was one dream<br />
that will never die.<br />
GALEN:<br />
You speak in riddles. All I know is that<br />
<strong>the</strong> ruins <strong>of</strong> an ancient city, <strong>the</strong> richest<br />
archaeological treasures I have ever<br />
SEEN may be lost for all time!<br />
VIRDON:<br />
And all I know is that a great man and<br />
his people died <strong>the</strong>re today, never<br />
knowing that <strong>the</strong> voice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir god <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> mountain, silent for over 2000 years,<br />
was in fact <strong>the</strong> voice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Liberty Bell!<br />
Of ancient Philadelphia.
