Webb’s best three
congressional districts—
more than 60%
Miller’s best two
congressional districts—
more than 60%
Miiller’s best single jurisdiction:
Petersburg City—81%
Webb’s best single jurisdiction:
Montogomery County—75%
Webb wins Democratic nod
continued from page one
What was most surprising was the huge
variation in vote totals. Miller collected an
astounding 81 percent of the vote in Petersburg
City but barely topped 25 percent in
Montgomery County, the jurisdiction where
Webb did his best.
The turnout was nothing to boast
about—although the 8 th district (Arlington,
Alexandria, Falls Church and the eastern sections
of Fairfax County) had by far the largest
turnout. Virginia’s 11 congressional districts
are equal in population so the turnout
statistics are meaningful. A total of 31,000
Democrats voted in the 8 th District while second
best was 21,000 voting in the 11 th district
just beyond the 8 th . Third place was only
14,500—less than half the turnout in the 8 th —
in the 10 th District, which includes Loudoun
County. From there, turnout slid down to less
than 9,000 in the 9 th District, which is the far
southwest corner of the state.
The Webb-Miller contest was not the
only primary June 6. The Republicans also
had a primary to choose a candidate to face
Rep. Jim Moran in the 8 th District this November.
They chose Tom O’Donoghue, 41,
who recently returned from two years with
the Army in the Middle East. But if voter
turnout is any indicator, it won’t be much of a
race this fall. Where almost 12,000 Democrats
came out to vote in Arlington, a mere
1,403 Republicans voted in the county.
Of the 49 precincts in Arlington, the GOP
couldn’t draw three digits in a single one.
Their best was 74 voters in Madison precinct.
Democrats failed to turn out in triple-digits
in only the three newest precincts. To the
horror of the GOP, they could not draw even
double digits in six Arlington precincts.
The full primary results by precinct are
available through the ACDC website.
thanks all for
support in race
It was an honor to seek the Democratic
endorsement for School Board. To those who
encouraged me to run, worked for me, and
voted for me, I am overwhelmed with appreciation.
There isn’t enough room to thank each
person on my wonderful, hardworking campaign
team, but I do want to give special
thanks to my manager, County Board member
Barbara Favola, and my deputy managers,
Karen Darner and Andres Tobar.
I am also grateful to the elected officials
who endorsed and assisted me, especially the
current and former members of the School
Board.
Finally, families always put up with a lot
in a campaign, and mine — husband Al
Eisenberg and sons Matthew and Alex —
were no exception. I am proud of them and
could not have done this without their love
and support.
