Low Angle: The most common touring paddling style. Paddle is kept at a low angle relative 

to the water and a relaxed stoke is used. Longer, narrower blades offer power and smooth 

forward strokes. (See top of pgs. 11, 13, 15, 17) 

High Angle: Best for straight ahead efficiency and maneuvering strokes. Paddle 

is kept at a high angle relative to the water and a more active stroke is used.

River Running and Creeking: Enjoy running a favorite river or steep and technical creek 

and catching waves on the fly. Balanced blade design is smooth and powerful from catch

SIZING INFORMATION 

Straight Shaft canoe paddles can 

be measured in this straightforward 

way. Follow these simple steps. 

:: Sit as upright as you can in a 

hard chair (i.e., kitchen chair, not 

a lay-z-boy). 

:: Place the grip of the paddle on the 

chair, the blade in front of your face. 

:: Hold the paddle at the throat (where 

the shaft transitions to the blade). 

:: If your paddle is the proper length, 

you should be looking directly at the 

bottom of your hand.
