MECHANICAL ASSIST
AUTOMATIC AISLE LOCK
Spacesaver’s mechanical assist automatic
aisle lock provides a passive method of
protecting users in the open aisles of mechanical
assist systems that automatically locks the
active aisle open with no conscious effort or
thought from the user.
MECHANICAL ASSIST
SYSTEM OPERATION
BENEFITS
Mechanical assist automatic aisle lock
automatically locks a new aisle open and resets
the system of color-coded aisle access arrows
when a user opens a new aisle five inches or
more. The automatic aisle locking mechanism,
activation plungers and face panel controls work
together to:
1. Prevent carriage movement into a protected,
locked open aisle.
2. Control a system of color-coded aisle access
arrows on the face panels to assist users.
3. Eliminate the need for manually activated
safety locking devices.
SYSTEM FEATURES
• Totally automatic, passive lock engagement
that prevents carriage bounce back
• Strong, durable locking mechanism that
provides silent operation
• Aisle activation plungers that are located near
the top of the face panels where they don’t
obstruct the aisle
• Simplified, manual relock and unlock features
that require depressing just one button
• Design flexibility that allows its use in mobile
systems with aisles of any width
Patent pending
SYSTEM OPERATION
An open aisle of a Spacesaver mobile storage
system equipped with automatic aisle lock is
locked open and safe to enter when the face
panel controls on the carriage(s) adjacent to the
open aisle display red arrows pointing to the
open aisle, and all other aisle access arrows on
the system’s face panels are green.
To close the open aisle and access a new one, the
“push to unlock” button must be depressed on
the carriage that has to move into the open,
locked aisle. That carriage’s aisle access arrow will
then turn green, indicating that it can now be
moved toward the open aisle.
AISLE LOCK
SYSTEM OPERATION
CONTINUED
Once the new aisle has been opened five inches (127 mm),
red access arrows pointing in its direction indicate the
new aisle’s locked, protected status. When the previously
opened aisle is closed its access arrows automatically turn
green showing that it is unlocked.
A green access arrow(s) pointing toward an open aisle
indicates that the aisle is not secured. The aisle can be
manually locked open by depressing the “manual relock”
button on the face panel controls. A red arrow will then
be displayed showing a locked, protected status.
APPLICATION
