Taking into account the current<br />

situation of irregular migrants from Peru<br />

and the Andean region in the European<br />

Union, who are consequently vulnerable<br />

to trafficking, this study attempts to<br />

identify the victims beginning with their<br />

surroundings in order to trace routes and<br />

establish characteristics of the trafficking<br />

of Peruvians and persons from Andean<br />

countries in the EU.<br />

Figure 12 shows information obtained<br />

from the Spanish NGO, Association for<br />

the Prevention, Reinsertion and<br />

Assistance for Female Prostitutes<br />

(APRAMP, initials in Spanish) that<br />

demonstrates the characteristics of<br />

trafficking victims from South America<br />

who are exploited in Spain. 61<br />

The information offered by APRAMP is<br />

very useful as it provides specific cases<br />

that serve to confirm statements made in<br />

previous chapters. Taking into account<br />

the many obstacles that stand in the way<br />

of obtaining quantitative and qualitative<br />

information about the victims or<br />

organizations that work with them, the<br />

authors opted for a three-pronged strategy<br />

in order to obtain more information.<br />

First, they contacted European entities<br />

that work directly with trafficking victims,<br />

including civil society organizations in<br />

receptor countries as well as government<br />

offices that provide <strong>social</strong> services.<br />

Second, the authors contacted the<br />

Ministry of Foreign Affairs to request<br />

information from Peruvian consulates in<br />

the EU. Finally, they contacted Peruvian<br />

and Andean associations in the EU.<br />
