<strong>PROGRAMME</strong> <strong>STANDARDS</strong>: <strong>ENGINEERING</strong> & <strong>ENGINEERING</strong> TECHNOLOGY<br />

LEARNING OUTCOMES<br />

“The quality of a programme is ultimately assessed by the ability of the learner to carry out their<br />

expected roles and responsibilities in society. This requires the programme to have a clear<br />

statement of the learning outcomes to be achieved by the learner" (COPPA, 2008, pp.11).<br />

“These learning outcomes should cumulatively reflect the eight (8) domains of learning<br />

outcomes, which are significant for Malaysia” (MQF, 2007, pp.4).<br />

CERTIFICATE in Engineering/Engineering Technology<br />

At the end of the programme, graduates should be able to (adapted from the Dublin Accord):<br />

i. apply basic knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering fundamentals to routine<br />

procedures and practices in specific fields;<br />

ii. identify specific engineering problems in their discipline with respect to operation and<br />

maintenance;<br />

iii. assist in the investigations and design of solutions for specific engineering systems;<br />

iv. demonstrate as awareness of societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the<br />

consequent responsibilities;<br />

v. demonstrate communication and team skills;<br />

vi. demonstrate an understanding of ethics, responsibilities and norms of engineering<br />

practices;<br />

vii. demonstrate an awareness of management, business practices, entrepreneurship and<br />

sustainable development; and<br />

viii. recognise the need for career development and to engage in lifelong learning.<br />

DIPLOMA in Engineering<br />

At the end of the programme, graduates should be able to (adapted from the Dublin Accord):<br />

i. apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering fundamentals to well-defined<br />

engineering procedures and practices;<br />
