Back again this year on the sand arena of piazza Santa Croce
the team of the Greens of S. Giovanni will give battle to the
Whites of S. Spirito, and the Reds of S. M. Novella will meet the
Blues of S. Croce, winner of the last tournament. At the 4:00pm
the historical parade of the Florentine Republic from piazza S.
M. Novella up to piazza S. Croce. At 5:00pm arraying of the
teams and start of the match.

The celebrations for Florence’s patron saint starts at 10:00 am
at the Baptistery with the offer of the church candles by the City
Administration and the Society of San Giovanni Battista. Mass at
the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore at 10:45 am and the final
match of the historical Florentine football tournament at 5:00
pm. Traditional fireworks and the awarding of the “Fiorini d’oro”
by the Mayor Matteo Renzi.

Poetry, words and music of the Teatro di Varietà by Raffaele Viviani
Director Maurizio Scaparro, production Fondazione Teatro della Pergola/Teatro del
Maggio Musicale Fiorentino
The performance is set during the journey made in 1929 by Raffaele Viviani and
his troupe on the steamer Duilio da Napoli in Buenos Aires during a long tournée
in South America and is about the rehearsals of the show dedicated to the Italian
expatriates who were crossing the ocean with them to find a new life.

MAGGIO MUSICALE FIORENTINO 2012
The long-awaited debut of the Florentine opera by Andrea Battistoni, enfant prodige
who is working his way up at international level, is a good reason to see the
