Just Dance Ballroom Lounge
Just Dance Ballroom’s sleek new bar has a
vibe all its own. The space is purpose-built
as the ballroom’s perfect vantage point to the
moving and grooving bodies in the Grand
Ballroom and doubles as the club’s epicenter
for conversation. The Lounge serves beer
and wine during special events and will add
special flare to your event rental.
Dance Shoes: What to buy, How they should fit and How to Care for them.
The right shoe is the dancer’s best
friend. The wrong one can affect your
dancing or even
cause an injury
limiting your time on
the dance floor.
Beginners should
begin a quest for
dance shoes by
trying on their choices instead of shopping
on the internet (as tempting as it
may be). Ballroom Connection, located
in Sunnyvale, CA has a knowledgeable
and helpful staff
(www.ballroomconnection.com) and
comes recommended by many of our
teachers.
The fit of a shoe is an important topic
for dancers. Ladies just starting to learn
salsa start with a 1-inch heel and work
their way up to a high heel (2-1/2 inches
or higher) as your dancing improves.
Don’t make the mistake of getting a
shoe that is too lose, you can really
injure yourself. The shank length of a
shoe makes all the difference in the
world. So ask the salesperson about it
when shopping. People with flat feet
and weak arches should wear full shank
shoes. High arches can wear either full
shank or split sole shoes.
Stephen Cullip says comfort and
durability are top priorities for ballroom
shoes, which should fit snuggly upon
purchase. Followers, if you intend to
compete, you will want to prepare
yourself to wear high heels. Take it from
Stephen, who teaches International
Standard and is often seen on the
judging panel of major competitions,
“Whatever style or brand you like as
long as they are court shoes (closed toe
and fully supportive of your foot) High
heels are a must with 2-2 1/2 inch
heels.”
Cullip adds that for Leaders, the
performance shoe (patent leather saved
for performance) should be a tighter fit
than the practice shoe (up to 1/2 size
difference). His favorite brand is
Celebrity Dance Shoes
(www.celebritydanceshoes.com)
If you are serious about training, then
your performance shoes need to be
immaculate for the big event or
competition and you may need to
invest in a pair of practice shoes. Be
careful though, there is a good $20
dollar price difference between
shops for the exact same shoes.
You can't return or exchange any
shoes after you have worn them.
Some shops have no returns at all!
Mesh shoe bags also help avoid
smelly shoes.
