The WGC Welcomes a New Corporate
Partner - Octagon
On February 17th, the WGC welcomed a new corporate
partner, Octagon, at Bank Street Events in Stamford,
CT. Octagon is the world’s largest sponsorship consulting
practice and a pioneer and leader in athlete and
personality representation and management. This was
a wonderful opportunity for Octagon to interact in an
intimate setting with local and diverse talent in the surrounding
areas in order to meet potential candidates
for positions that were currently open at Octagon.
Our members and guests got a chance to talk directly
with key people and decision makers within the Octagon
organization. Our guests found the representatives
of the Octagon organization to be very engaging,
welcoming and were impressed by the organization’s
innovative marketing campaigns and commitment to
growth. Octagon was equally impressed by the diversity
and energy of our guests and found the evening to
be a success and very informative.
Monroe College Professional Development
with Carla Harris
On January 31st, the WGC partnered
with Monroe College – King Graduate
School of Business to host a phenomenal
event featuring author of
Expect To Win, Carla Harris. Over 50
students, members and faculty were
in attendance to enjoy Carla’s “pearls
of wisdom”. Carla shared her keys
to success as an African American
woman working on Wall Street for over 20 years and
rising to Managing Director at Morgan Stanley. Carla
encouraged all to continue the pursuit of excellence
through education, mentorship, community and volunteerism
– which happens to be many of the membership
benefits of the NBMBAA WGC Chapter. The
evening concluded with an intimate opportunity for
questions and answers with our esteemed author of
which included Carla singing one of her great gospel
songs. We can’t thank Carla enough for taking time out
of her busy schedule to share her time, expertise and
winning spirit! Also, special thanks to Dr. Harris and
the Monroe College team for their continued support
and coordination of the event. The WGC continues to
host events that inspire both personal and professional
growth while ultimately cultivating our community
… stay tuned for our upcoming events including our
Spring Membership meeting on April 24th and our ultra
exciting “Salsa and Soul” on May 17th!
WGC Leadership Team 2012 Kick Off
On February 4, the WGC Leadership team kicked off the
new year with a happy hour at Butterfield 8 in Stamford,
CT. This was a chance for the newly elected leadership
team to come together to network, discuss ideas
for the year and get to know each other in a relaxed and
social environment. Butterfield 8 sponsored the happy
hour as a thank you for using their venue for our 2011
Holiday Party. The team started the night off in the
bar area, chatting about our personal and professional
lives and then we moved
to the dining room to finish
off the evening with some
appetizers, drinks and conversation
about how to
position the chapter to ensure
we exceed our goals
and objectives and grow
our membership and partnerships
with the Fairfield and Westchester Counties
professional community. The team meets monthly
and strategizes in structured Leadership Team meetings,
but this was a way to kick off the year getting to
know each other and discussing our thoughts about
the chapter and how our individual contributions will
benefit the whole.
Get Fit with the WGC
This was the first of a number of events we will host as
part of our WGC Health & Wellness Series in 2012. So,
we hosted our first fitness class on February 25th. The
attendees enjoyed a lively Zumba class instructed by
master instructor, Gustavo Lopez. Our hope is to continue
this health and wellness series throughout 2012.
