Velma waited a minute, <strong>the</strong>n<br />
followed.<br />
She landed back in <strong>the</strong> dining room.<br />
“Jinkies,” said Velma, “just as I<br />
suspected.”<br />
A new puppet sat at <strong>the</strong> table, and it<br />
looked exactly like Daphne. She was<br />
slumped over with her face to <strong>the</strong> table<br />
and a note in her hand.<br />
“What’s it say?” asked Kelda.<br />
Velma took <strong>the</strong> note out <strong>of</strong> Daphne’s<br />
hand. “You’re next, Velma,” Velma read.<br />
“Signed, <strong>the</strong> Apparition…”<br />
“Uh oh,” said Kelda. “I know <strong>the</strong><br />
Apparition. It’s rumored to be a living<br />
puppet that claims all who dare to enter<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>haunted</strong> house.”<br />
“This can’t be good,” Velma said.<br />
“It’s only a matter <strong>of</strong> time before <strong>the</strong><br />
Apparition comes for me.”<br />
“Maybe you can keep it a <strong>secret</strong>,”<br />
Kelda said. “The Apparition can’t be real,<br />
