Williamstown has shown the competition it
means business this year with a massive win over
the disappointing St John’s outfit. The Seagulls
set up their victory kicking 6 goals to 1 in the
opening quarter. St John’s couldn’t get back into it
after that and the Gulls ran rampant with ten goal
kickers. St John’s will be disappointed after coming
off a great finish to last year finishing and will be
looking to make amends this week. Corey Ely was
best and Mella Opiew kicking the only major for
the boys from Dandenong. Williamstown had a
number of good players on the day, but best on
was Robert Jansen also bagging 3 goals, while up
forward Trent Dimitriou and Jayden Costello both
kicked 6 majors.
In what was the closest game of the round,
Werribee dispatched off UHS-VU/Flemington
by 55 points. UHS-VU/Flemington coming off
their Division 2 premiership last year started off
well leading at the first change. Unfortunately

the boys from Parkville didn’t get another bite
for the rest of the day. Brent Kelly tried best UHS
while Muhammed Kohdr and Lloyd Grant kicked a
couple of majors. For the Tigers, Hayden Acciarito
kicked 5 goals and was one of the best along with
Mitch Gatti.
Rupertswood unfurled last year’s premiership flag
and started where they left off with a demolition
job of last year’s finalists Old Camberwell. The
boys from Sunbury had ten goal kickers, with
Jordan Gay leading the way with six majors and
a BOG performance; he was accompanied by
Sean Gregory with four goals to his name. Old
Camberwell will be disappointed and will hope
to bounce back next week. Matthew Klashovski in
his second year of 18’s was best on for the Wellers
kicking 2 majors and was assisted by William Kanz
who also kicked two.
In what was the fourth smashing of the round, St
Bernards proved that the grand final loss from last
year might be the motivation to go one better in
season 2011. The first quarter proved to be a tight
tussle with only three goals kicked between the
two teams. Unfortunately the flood gates opened
and Bernies kicked 20 goals to 2 in the final 3 qtrs.
Matthew Sargent kicked 5 majors while Michael
Hughes was best on for the snow dogs. Darcy Ryan
tried his best all day while Hayden Rowe was the
only goal kicker for the Therry boy’s with 3 majors.
