HISTORY Cocktails are alcoholic mixed drinks, which are usually a mix and match concoction of at least two different liqueurs or spirits. Cocktails were once drunk only on rare occasions, and then strictly before meals, this new availability has meant that people have adopted a more relaxed approach to them. The range of delectable cocktails to choose from today is virtually endless‐ the rationale behind them being that they should offer a subtle and harmonious blend of flavours, as well as a powerful kick. For much of human history, beer and wine, made from fermented grapes and grains, have been the only alcoholic drinks available. The alcohol content is low but it still carries the kick that people liked. In a way, cocktails is a barometer of just how civilized people has become. Cocktails are not consumed by tribal groups in the Amazon rainforest or by fans a football/soccer game. Cocktails is thereby, a civilized drink for smart, hip and enlightened people. 1
