Important Events in the Development of Triticale<br />

1976 Mexico "Beagle" and "Drira:' two complete triticales, show high yield<br />

and adaptation similar to that of the "Maya 2/Armadillo" cross.<br />

1979 Mexico Mexico releases its second and third triticale varieties, "Cananea"<br />

and "Caborca." Interest in triticale starts growing in many<br />

countries.<br />

1980 France France releases its first triticale variety, "Clercal." It eventually<br />

becomes the number one triticale variety in France, the leading<br />

producer of the crop in 1986.<br />

1982 Poland "Lasko:' the most widely grown triticale in the world today, is<br />

approved for release in Poland.<br />

1985 Brazil Brazil, the country possessing the greatest potential area for<br />

growing triticale, officially approves the crop's cultivation and<br />

releases two varieties.<br />

1986 Triticale surpasses the one million hectare mark.<br />
