John Lohnes
Grade 8
Freeskier
Amherst, NH
Hi, my name is John Lohnes. I am a 14 year old freestyle skier and student at Mount
Snow Academy. I previously rode at Crotched Mountain, another mountain owned by
Peak Resorts. I have been skiing since I was three and have been hooked ever since. I
have been riding rails and boxes and catching big air since I was nine. The reason I
came to MSA was not only to reach my goals of becoming a professional skier, but
also to excel in the class room and one day graduate from college. MSA is not only a
terrific school for me to train in my sport but it is also an excellent atmosphere to
make new friends that I will grow through the sport with. I believe that I have
improved greatly with the little time I have been here and I am ecstatic to push myself farther in my discipline
and academics.
Ryan O’Hara
Grade 8
Snowboarder
Little Silver, NJ
Hello my name is Ryan O'Hara. This is my second year at Mount Snow Academy. I am
from Little Silver, New Jersey. I have been riding at Mount Snow since I was five years
old. I would come up on the weekends and ride then make the five-hour journey back
home. I heard of MSA from my brother, Thomas O'Hara, when he was trying to get
better at snowboarding. I wanted to follow in his footsteps because I was his little
brother. Coming to MSA is a great experience, and I wish I can come back next year.
Emma Nesson
Grade 9
Snowboarder
Newton, MA
Hi, I’m Emma Nesson, and I’m 14 years old. I reside in Newton, Massachusetts, and
this is my first year at Mount Snow Academy. I snowboard and have been enjoying my
time here, despite a recent injury that has prevented me from participating in the
program. Although I have missed much, I still have been amazed with MSA. The
coaches here are fantastic, and through building my rider confidence they have
enabled me to take my riding to the next level. I have accomplished more personal
goals in such a short period of time than I ever thought possible. Although
snowboarding can be a male-dominated sport, I have found through the support of my
coaches and teammates that I have a place in this community as a female rider and can really thrive.
I am also learning a lot through the one-on-one teaching system. I enjoy my classes because they are catered to
my learning style and interests. I love being able to spend half-days working hard in school so I can have time to
ride as much as I can. In my spare time, I enjoy watching Law and Order SVU on Netflix, long car rides, eating
pasta, patting my dog, and being with my family.
