The Penn Relays is the largest track and field competition in the US, attracting more than 15,000 participants from top high schools, colleges, and track clubs. The NDA girls ran their fastest time for the season. South Shore Charter Educational Foundation’s Golf & Auction Committee is accepting registration for the annual “Drive Fore the Future” golf tournament and auction on Friday, Jun. 10, at South Shore Country Club, Hingham. Andrade earns Emerson accolades Basketball player Kathy Andrade of Hull was named the Emerson College female student athlete of the year. Andrade finished her four years of competition number two on the career scoring and rebounding lists for Emerson women’s basketball. Andrade scored 1,181 points and pulled down 761 rebounds over her four years. Tyrell ultimately chose the replacement for previous principal Lynda Feeney, who left the district last year, when it became clear that she would not be offered a multi-year contract extension. Noting that Hrivnak will be next year’s eighth graders’ third principal in as many years, school committee Chairman Stephanie Peters said parents had elicited his promise that he would stay in Hull “for at least six years.” Hrivnak smiled at her, nodded, and repeated “at least six years.” Hrivnak earned his bachelor’s in chemistry and professional educator’s certification at the University of Pittsburgh, where he achieved a perfect grade point average, 4.0, according to his resume. He also attained a 4.0 GPA while earning his master’s in educational leadership from Bridgewater State College. He began his career as a chemist for Bayer Corp. in Pittsburgh and taught chemistry at Marshfield High School before moving into school administration at Hanover High in 2005. If you haven’t already signed up to the library network’s online database, coordinators in Hanover on a “curriculum mapping initiative” for grades 5-12 to “fill gaps and to find redundancies in the courses students take,” according to the letter of intent Hrivnak sent to Hull with his resume. In brief remarks at Wednesday’s SchoolCom meeting, Hrivnak said that he “knows that, working together, we’re going to do great things…” At the beginning of the meeting, the school board reorganized its leadership in the wake of the May 16 town election, when longtime member Kevin Richardson was elected to the board of selectmen. Eric Hipp was elected to the school committee and Stephanie Peters was reelected. Neither faced opposition, but both took time this week to thank the voters who turned out at the polls. Hipp noted that he had garnered 1,088 votes to Peters’ 1,134. “I’d like a rematch in three years,” he told her. When member Kristen Evans nominated Peters it’s worth doing. But in the absence of any of any other member who wanted the job – and the accompanying time commitments the post requires – Peters was cheerfully and unanimously reelected to the chair.
