Present Status<br />

Multimodal Corridor from Virar to<br />

Alibaug<br />

This 126 km long Virar-Alibuag Multi<br />

Modal Corridor will be a crucial step<br />

towards development, strengthening<br />

and creating job opportunities in seven<br />

growth centers in MMR such as Virar,<br />

Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Dombivali, <strong>Panvel</strong>,<br />

Taloja and Uran. The Corridor will also<br />

be useful for the development of <strong>Navi</strong><br />

<strong>Mumbai</strong> International Airport, JNPT Port<br />

MMRDA has completed the Techno-<br />

Economic and Financial Feasibility<br />

Studies for the Multimodal corridor.<br />

The Corridor is proposed to be<br />

commissioned in two phases, phase-I<br />

being from Navghar to Chirner near<br />

JNPT (about 79 km). The estimated<br />

cost of the first phase is about Rs.<br />

10,000 Cr. Phase-II from Chirner to<br />

Alibaug, (about 47 km) is proposed to<br />

be taken up subsequently. The Feasibility<br />

report for both the phases has<br />

been completed and the process for<br />

detailed survey for land ac-quisition is<br />

currently underway.
