Pat Hutch<strong>in</strong>gs<br />
Pat Hutch<strong>in</strong>gs jo<strong>in</strong>ed the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement<br />
of Teach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> 1998, serv<strong>in</strong>g as a senior scholar and then as vice president,<br />
work<strong>in</strong>g closely with a wide range of programs and research<br />
<strong>in</strong>itiatives, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of<br />
Teach<strong>in</strong>g and Learn<strong>in</strong>g. She has written widely on the <strong>in</strong>vestigation<br />
and documentation of teach<strong>in</strong>g and learn<strong>in</strong>g, the peer collaboration<br />
and review of teach<strong>in</strong>g, and the scholarship of teach<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
learn<strong>in</strong>g. Recent publications, draw<strong>in</strong>g from Carnegie’s work, <strong>in</strong>clude<br />
Ethics of Inquiry: Issues <strong>in</strong> the Scholarship of Teach<strong>in</strong>g and Learn<strong>in</strong>g<br />
(2002), <strong>Open<strong>in</strong>g</strong> L<strong>in</strong>es: Approaches <strong>to</strong> the Scholarship of Teach<strong>in</strong>g<br />
and Learn<strong>in</strong>g (2000) and, co-authored with Mary Taylor Huber, The<br />
Advancement of Learn<strong>in</strong>g: Build<strong>in</strong>g the Teach<strong>in</strong>g Commons (2005).<br />
She left her full-time position <strong>in</strong> December 2009 but cont<strong>in</strong>ues <strong>to</strong><br />
work part-time with the Foundation on a broad range of higher<br />
education issues. She was chair of the English department at Alverno<br />
College from 1978 <strong>to</strong> 1987 and a senior staff member at the American<br />
Association for Higher Education from 1987-1997. Her doc<strong>to</strong>rate <strong>in</strong><br />
English is from the University of Iowa.<br />
