“If you would like power connected to
an outbuilding, we first recommend that
you check with your local zoning office
about obtaining any necessary permits,”
Fisher said. “Most customers now want
an outbuilding that is going to enhance
their property and blend with existing architecture.”
Fisher said a majority of customers request
painted wood exteriors, painted trim,
several windows and metal or shingle roofs.
“More people want our finished interior,
too, with tongue-and-groove pine walls
and finished flooring,” Fisher said. “The
most popular dual use outbuilding we do
is one that can be used as a child’s playhouse
and storage, but we have also done
ones that double as office or work space
and storage. We’ve done the greenhouse
idea a time or two, but it can be tough to
get enough natural light, particularly in a
built by Fisher Barns

Fisher said the easiest way to determine
what size building you need is to walk
through various sizes on display.
Jeff Miller, assistant store manager with
Lowe’s Home Improvement of Greenwood,
said the store will install wooden storage
buildings on properties, or customers can
do it themselves.
There are also metal and vinyl buildings
available that customers can put up
themselves.
“If you want something easy to move
around, choose vinyl. If you want something
not so easy to move, go with metal or
wood,” Miller said. “If you want something
with a number of available options, ranging
from weather vanes to flower boxes and options
for doors, windows, ventilation, paint
and shelving, go with wooden.”
