President’s Message
Spring Show Review
This year “The Art of Orchids” show received
the “Best Show” award as judged by those
who attended. Our shows have a reputation
that generates enthusiasm for orchids, draws
excellent attendance with superb sales. It is
an occasion when volunteers work as a team
and enjoy visiting with guests and society
members. Our annual shows foster the future
activities and health of our society.
Later this month, Saturday the 13 th , Kayo is
traveling with a bus full of orchid enthusiasts
to Santa Barbara orchid show. Do give Kayo a
call soon @310-374-7353 as the seats are filling
up fast. I can predict that everyone will
enjoy (as in the past) the trip to the Santa
Barbara Orchid Show and visits to two large
orchid growers, Santa Barbara Orchid Estates
and Cal-Orchid.
In May we will vote for officers to guide us
through the 2010-2011 year. This year’s
board has lead our society in a very pleasant,
positive direction for the future. If you want
to consider being a possible candidate, or an
alternate, do contact Arthur Hazboun or
any board member. We always want new talents
that are needed for success and growth.
Thank you, Don Smith, for donating more of
Dorothy’s books to our Society. We appreciate
your thoughtfulness.
If you have SBOS ribbon awards cluttering
the bottom of your drawer, do bring them in
for free opportunity table raffle tickets—one
for each ribbon.

What a great Spring Show we had! The
weather was great, the orchids were beautiful,
and the show was well attended. Everything
ran smoothly thanks to the hard work of our
committee chairs and everyone who came to
help.

Grower: Steve Moeschler
Marilyn Hill and Sue Estes recruited and
organized the hosts and hostesses. They did a
great job of keeping an eye on the showroom
and answering questions the public might have
about our plants and our society, as well as
staffing the plant hotel and the front lobby.
Ron Henry and Larry Bergen organized
the set-up of the show, which involved bringing
all of our show supplies from storage and returning
them. Thank you to everyone who
showed up to help with this labor-intensive job.
Bob Streeter was able to get excellent
judges for our ribbon judging and for CSA and
AOS judging. Bob and his assistants organized
our plants for judging and public display.
Sharon Gage and Ann Rogers worked
hard to get everyone’s plants registered Friday
night.
Eeva Renger was at the Membership and
Information table to welcome our guests, answer
questions about our meetings, and to sign
up new members. Thanks to her efforts we
now have 15 new family memberships, or 19
members.
