7. Lots of activities coming up as we head to the end of the school year – Orchestra
concert tomorrow night, Sr. Citizen Prom, Art Show, Madrigal concert, Jazz Band concert
to name a few.
III. Unique Learning Opportunities
Mr. Franson introduced Ms. Linda Gilmore to discuss the Calculus BC/AP course offered at LT.
This two-semester course is especially designed for excellent students with high interest in
mathematics and/or science. Completion of this course qualifies students to take the Calculus
BC AP examination. Students can earn 2 college credits with successful completion of this
course.
Mr. Franson then introduced Mr. Chris Thomas, WLTL General Manager (and WLTL alumni), to
give us information and a tour of the WLTL and LTTV studios. WLTL is an award winning,
community oriented radio station. Students are given leadership (managerial) roles and run the
radio station under the supervision and guidance of Mr. Thomas. Each year, a team of student
managers is selected to operate the station under the guidance of a general manager. All
students attending Lyons Township High School are welcome to join the WLTL team. If a student
has an interest in becoming an on-air personality, her or she has to complete an audition.
LTTV is a combination of educational and government access. Mr. Thomas presented in person
for Mr. Bill Allen, the TV Club Head Advisor, who was currently at the NAB Show in Las Vegas.
Any student of Lyons Township High School can be a part of the LTTV Crew. Crew members help
direct, produce, edit, and film LT sports and events for airing on LTTV. The mission of LTTV is to
provide coverage of activities and events at Lyons Township High School as well as local
municipal and community events. The facilities and equipment are also provided to students at
Lyons Township High School to learn video and television production, through either the TV
Production classes or the TV Club. The majority of programs seen on LTTV are crewed by
students at Lyons Township High School.
IV. Small Group Discussions
A handout for table discussion was passed around. It asked about the consensus of the
members based on the presentations.
