Alumnae Host Halloween Carnival Costumed youngsters converged on the St. Joseph’s Academy Activity Center on October 26 for the annual SJA Alumnae Association Halloween Carnival. � e event was chaired by SJA graduates Emily Hightower Beach ’94 and Jennifer Rea Plaisance ’94. � e young visitors enjoyed a variety of games and activities, including pin-thenose-on-the-pumpkin, pumpkin toss, spider web toss, goblin golf, miniature pumpkin painting and face painting. 4 • Fall 2008 � e children also enjoyed a number of Halloween-inspired crafts and the opportunity to decorate their own Halloween cookies. � ey rode a miniature train around the Activity Center parking lot and snacked on Halloween treats and punch. Pictures were taken in front of an autumn backdrop designed and painted by SJA art students. Members of the SJA Key Club helped man the booths and entertain the young visitors. SJA Hosts Gathering for D.C.-area Graduates Washington, D.C., was the site of a recent alum get-together, hosted by President Sister Adele Lambert, CSJ, and Principal Linda Fryoux Harvison. St. Joseph’s Academy hosted a gathering for Academy graduates living in the Washington, D.C., area. The event was held September 27 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. SJA President Sister Adele Lambert, CSJ, and Principal Linda Fryoux Harvison hosted the get-together. Enjoying the afternoon were Sally Calongne ’91, Karla Huffstickler ’89, Anne Curtis Rigby ’54, Kristen Nevels ’00 and Vita Levatino ’93, who helped organize the event with SJA Alumnae Coordinator Lauren Griffin ’01. Distinguished Graduate To Be Honored by Diocese Kendall Coye Hebert, a 1998 Academy graduate, will be the recipient of the 2008- 2009 Distinguished Graduate Award for St. Joseph’s Academy when the Catholic Schools Offi ce of the Diocese of Baton Rouge hosts its annual Distinguished Graduates Awards program. � e event is set for January 27, 2009, at the Baton Rouge Marriott during Catholic Schools Week. Hebert’s contributions to family, school, parish and community led to her nomination for the annual award. Hebert and husband Ryan, a 1998 graduate of Catholic High, have two young children, Connor, 2, and Hannah, 1. � eir young family keeps them extremely busy. Even with her busy schedule, Hebert is an active member of St. Mark Catholic Church. She also serves as the wedding coordinator for St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church. As director of public relations for the American Red Cross, Hebert assumes a public role for the agency during times of disaster. She was the articulate and reassuring spokes- woman for the Red Cross during the recent hurricanes. Among her additional duties are media and community relations, communications, publications and serving as state Kendall Coye Hebert public information offi cer and public aff airs instructor. Hebert is a member of Women in Media and Public Relations Association of Louisiana. Honesty and dependability are hallmarks of Hebert’s personal and professional lives. Known for her sense of humor and boundless energy, Hebert remains a lifelong learner who is quick to reach out in service to others. Her faith calls her to be keenly aware of and interested in morality and social justice. Her faith in God and service to others distinguish her everyday living. Call for Outstanding Alum Nominations � e St. Joseph’s Academy Alumnae Association is accepting nominations for this year’s Outstanding Alumnae awards. � is annual recognition honors Academy graduates who, in their day-to-day living, exemplify integrity, moral character, love of God and service to humanity. In order to be eligible for the award, a nominee must have graduated at least 10 years ago. Nominations can be submitted by any member of the SJA community. Once nominated, an alumna remains eligible for three years. Nominations are confi dential. Outstanding Alumnae award recipients will be selected by an anonymous committee. Honorees will be recognized at the Alumnae Luncheon on Saturday, April 25, 2009. � e deadline for nominations is January 31, 2009. Nomination forms can be completed and submitted electronically through the SJA website (www.sjabr.org) under Outstanding Alumnae.
