The Gem State
Idaho is called “The Gem State” because of its abundance of
natural resources. Gold and silver, to the rare minerals of jade and
topaz are all found inside Idaho. The Gem State is also famous for
its scenic beauty that includes snow-capped mountains, miles
and miles of rivers, vast lakes, and steep canyons.
My father taught me to respect the land at a young age while
camping, hunting , hiking, and riding horses on Idaho’s lands. In
the 55 years of calling Idaho my home, I have had the amazing
opportunity to experience much of what this state has to offer.
along with Fern Falls. It’s hard to beat Champion Lakes in the
White Clouds and my last trip out to the meadows of Martin
Creek we found a no name lake with some of the best fishing I
have ever experienced.
As for the rivers of Idaho, The Middlefork of the Salmon is
premier for sure but don’t forget about the Bruneau, Jarbidge
Rivers, and the Selway. For day runs the amazing Murtaugh
stretch of the Snake River offers some of the best Idaho has to
offer in big white water. The main and lower Salmon must be
experienced more than once.
If you enjoy hiking, backpacking, camping, horses, ATV’s,
motorcycles, mountain bikes, rock climbing, hunting or rafting
just ask and I will tell you as much as I can for you to enjoy Idaho
as I do.
For an easy day hike have you thought of hiking into Titus Lake
or Fourth of July Lake in the Sawtooths?
Mountain bikers will love the world class White Clouds and
Castle Divide is a must see along with Born Lakes.
If you like to backpack, The Frank Church Wilderness features
Langer, Josephus, Soldier, and Cutthroat Lakes just to name a few
and then the Sawtooths with Barron, Alpine, Cramer, Spangler,
If you prefer to stay in your vehicle, Middlefork Peak Lookout is
an adventure to never be forgotten. While Jarbidge, Yellowpine,
and many more roads offer the Idaho adventure.
Did I mention Idaho’s natural hot springs are one of my favorite
reasons for exploring Idaho and I know of some great ones.
