Child Care is going through a statewide
computer program conversion. At
the beginning of October child care
will be incorporated into the "The
Workforce Information System of
Texas" (TWIST).

clinics forced to close
South Plains Community Action
Association had clinics in Plainview,
Lubbock and Levelland.
The clinics provided contraceptive
methods as well as a variety
of health screenings for things
such as breast and cervical cancer,
diabetes and sexuallytransmitted
diseases for lowincome
women/men on a sliding
fee scale.
The closures were prompt­ed by
reported funding cuts of close to
$73 million in Texas, or about
two-thirds of what had been a
$111 million budget. The cuts
apparently came as a result of
anti-abortion legislators who
vowed to choke out clinics who
affili­ated with abortion providers.
According to Slate Rep. Donna
Howard (D-Austin) in an article
for The Texas Tribune, "This
(legislative) session we have seen
an all-out assault on women's
health driven by the erroneous
assumption that family planning
is synonymous with abortion.”
SPCAA'S family-planning clinics
did not provide abortions, nor
did they affiliate with anyone
who does. Not only did we not
advocate for abortion, but the
provision of birth control education
and methods is a great preventer
of abortion.
The Family Planning staff devoted
a lot of time and energy to
helping our patients get through
some of life's biggest storms.

Annual Leave: Use It or Lose It
With so many stores putting up Halloween, Thanksgiving,
and even Christmas decorations, we should
be reminded to keep an eye on our Annual Leave.
Your supervisor receives a report each month that
states your annual & Discretionary Leave amounts.
If you have any questions, please contact your supervisor
before contacting HR.
Though you are paid for any Discretionary leave you
do not use by November 30th, some of your Annual
leave is able to carry over; but not all of it. The table
outlines how many hours of Annual leave you are
allowed to carry over.
Make plans with your supervisor to use any extra
Annual Leave hours before you lost them!!

CDS and Senior Companion News!!!
Sylvia Gonzales, Program Director for the Client
Directed Services (CDS) Program, recently attended
a seminar involving the upcoming changes to the
Electronic Visit Verification. The EVV Pilot Program
Workshop was held at the
Life Run Center in Lubbock
August 25th, and the presenters
were from Austin. The name of
the presenting group is PACT/
ADAPT of Texas. PACT stands for
Personal Attendant Coalition of
Texas. ADAPT of Texas is a grassroots
disability rights group making
change happen.
Rolling out in March 2012, the
process will make it mandatory
for providers to assemble a defined
schedule for providers, and
those providers will have to electronically
(via phone or fixed visit voucher) account
for their time at a client‟s home in real-time. The
SANTRAX software system will be in use, but providers
will be held to a higher standard in their scheduling
and actual time at a client‟s home.

Sylvia stated that trainings will be held prior to the
March 2012 rollout, and will probably begin this fall.
The information she gained at this seminar will not
only affect her CDS Program, but also CLASS and
Home Health.
Senior Companion News: The
week of Sept 19 th -23 rd was National
Senior Corps Week. The
efforts of all Senior Companions,
Foster Grandparents and RSVP
volunteers were recognized
across the United States. During
2010 450,000 volunteers contributed
98 million hours of service
within their communities. Locally
56 Senior Companions were recognized
for the 62,564 hours they
spent with 112 clients in nine
different communities who needed assistance meeting
Activities of Daily Living, respite or just a
friendly visitor. If you know some of our Companions
– please let them know that their work is greatly
appreciated.
