Without prejudice to applicable safety
rules, passengers are not permitted to
carry various articles into the security
restricted areas, on board (the cabin) and
on the aircraft, including guns, firearms and
other devices that discharge projectiles;
stunning devices; pointed or sharp objects;
tools; blunt instruments; explosives &
incendiary substances & devices, amongst
others.
Apart from the prohibited items mentioned,
the European Union (EU) adopted security
rules that restrict the amount of liquids
carried through the security checkpoints
as hand luggage to protect against the
threat of liquid explosives.
Passengers can take into the aircraft
cabin any liquids purchased after passing
through Security. Items purchased at the
Departures go through a separate security
process. These include bottled water,
wines, spirits, fragrances and cosmetics of
any size.
The following items are allowed through
Malta Airport security check points:
• Liquids in individual containers with
a maximum capacity of 100ml each,
packed inside a re-sealable 1 litre plastic
bag. Only one bag per passenger is
permitted.
• Liquids to be used during the journey
(journey = original flight + stay = return
flight) for special medical or dietary
purposes, including baby food are to
be presented separately at the security
points. (a Medical Certificate covering
the specific items may at times be
requested)
