Without prejudice to applicable safety<br />

rules, passengers are not permitted to<br />

carry various articles into the security<br />

restricted areas, on board (the cabin) and<br />

on the aircraft, including guns, firearms and<br />

other devices that discharge projectiles;<br />

stunning devices; pointed or sharp objects;<br />

tools; blunt instruments; explosives &<br />

incendiary substances & devices, amongst<br />

others.<br />

Apart from the prohibited items mentioned,<br />

the European Union (EU) adopted security<br />

rules that restrict the amount of liquids<br />

carried through the security checkpoints<br />

as hand luggage to protect against the<br />

threat of liquid explosives.<br />

Passengers can take into the aircraft<br />

cabin any liquids purchased after passing<br />

through Security. Items purchased at the<br />

Departures go through a separate security<br />

process. These include bottled water,<br />

wines, spirits, fragrances and cosmetics of<br />

any size.<br />

The following items are allowed through<br />

<strong>Malta</strong> <strong>Airport</strong> security check points:<br />

• Liquids in individual containers with<br />

a maximum capacity of 100ml each,<br />

packed inside a re-sealable 1 litre plastic<br />

bag. Only one bag per passenger is<br />

permitted.<br />

• Liquids to be used during the journey<br />

(journey = original flight + stay = return<br />

flight) for special medical or dietary<br />

purposes, including baby food are to<br />

be presented separately at the security<br />

points. (a Medical Certificate covering<br />

the specific items may at times be<br />

requested)
