What is a carer?<br />

A carer is someone of any age who provides unpaid help and <strong>support</strong> to a<br />

partner, child, relative or friend who require practical help or emotional<br />

<strong>support</strong> due to their illness. You don’t have to be living with the person you<br />

care for to be considered a <strong>Carer</strong>. Caring may involve:<br />

Who is the group for?<br />

<strong>Wigan</strong> and <strong>Leigh</strong> <strong>Hospice</strong> <strong>Carer</strong>s Support Group is for any relative or<br />

friend that assists in the provision of care for a patient known to hospice<br />

services. These can be patients known to out-patients, day hospice or the<br />

community specialist palliative care nurses.<br />

What are the aims of the Group?<br />

To provide a source of information and advice for carers<br />

To reduce carer isolation.<br />

To sign post carers to appropriate services.<br />

To work with local agencies to provide up to date resource<br />

material and information relevant to carers.<br />
