What is a carer?
A carer is someone of any age who provides unpaid help and support to a
partner, child, relative or friend who require practical help or emotional
support due to their illness. You don’t have to be living with the person you
care for to be considered a Carer. Caring may involve:

Who is the group for?
Wigan and Leigh Hospice Carers Support Group is for any relative or
friend that assists in the provision of care for a patient known to hospice
services. These can be patients known to out-patients, day hospice or the
community specialist palliative care nurses.
What are the aims of the Group?

To reduce carer isolation.
To sign post carers to appropriate services.
To work with local agencies to provide up to date resource
material and information relevant to carers.
