EKUSHEY BOOK FAIR-2014<br />

If anybody wants to be enlightened<br />
with knowledge then reading books is<br />
the easiest way. In the age of technology<br />
we hardly spend time on reading<br />
but it is also a blessed that, through<br />
technology we can easily find the<br />
quality books by using internet. We<br />
can’t describe in word how much joy<br />
is reading books, we can only feel it.<br />
Reading books gives you that much<br />
needed break from the chaos in your<br />
life and also exercises your brain in<br />
the process. When we talked about<br />
book reading then the first things<br />
comes in our mind is “Ekushey Book<br />
Fair”. <strong>The</strong> Ekushey Book Fair or<br />
Omor Ekushey Boi Mela is the biggest<br />
as well as the national book fair of<br />
Bangladesh arranged by Bangla Academy<br />
in Dhaka and Government of<br />
Bangladesh. It’s a month long<br />
program of February every year.<br />
Ekushey Book Fair holds such importance<br />
that it is regarded as the<br />
cultural reunion of Bangladesh.<br />
<strong>The</strong> first Book Fair was held in 1972<br />
an informal manner. This year the fair<br />
arranged widely and extended number<br />
of stalls to Suhrawardy Udyan, beside<br />
Bangla Academy premises. People of<br />
all ages and book lovers visit the<br />
Book Fair not only to purchase books<br />
but also they enjoy the environment<br />
with prominent book writers. Because<br />
book authors or book writers also<br />
present on the fair to interact with<br />
people and the visitors also love to<br />
collect the autographs from famous<br />
writer. <strong>The</strong>y also take photographs<br />
with the famous writer and store it as<br />
their sweet memory.<br />
This year more than 300 publishing<br />
house takes part in the fair. <strong>The</strong>y offer<br />
up to 25% discount on the book price.<br />
This year the Amar Ekushey Book<br />
Fair 2014 is so important because it<br />
has been dedicated to the late<br />
eminent jurist and former chief justice<br />
Muhammad Habibur Rahman, also<br />
language hero and former chief<br />
adviser of a caretaker government.<br />
Bangla Academy also organizes<br />
month-long discussions and cultural<br />
functions to highlight the life and<br />
works of scholars in Bengali literature,<br />
national and political issues and<br />
development.<br />
