SURE START PROGRAM<br />
The Sure Start program offers activities to ensure a child’s readiness and on-going<br />
development for entrance into kindergarten. Children must be four years old by<br />
September 1 of the current school year. The program is limited to eighteen children.<br />
Entrance into the program is based on specific criteria and applications are evaluated by a<br />
Sure Start committee. Please call the school office for more information, 09662-83-2812,<br />
or DSN 476-2812.<br />
Parents of students who are chosen for the program are required to volunteer hours to the<br />
program. To be eligible, a student must be present for the entire school year. Students<br />
attending this program have an adjusted school day.<br />
SUPPLEMENTAL PROGRAMS<br />
INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT SPECIALISTS<br />
Academic support specialists will provide intervention strategies for children identified<br />
by their teachers as needing additional help.<br />
READ 180<br />
READ 180 is a remedial instructional program designed to improve the reading level for<br />
identified students in grades 4 and 5 scoring below the 40 th percentile on a recently<br />
administered standardized achievement test.<br />
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE<br />
The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program is available to students who have a<br />
first language other than English. The program’s emphasis is to enhance overall English<br />
proficiency. Students are assessed twice a year to determine individual needs.<br />
