Grand Prize Winner receives: PRIZES • Opening slot for Rodney Atkins on the main stage at The Showgrounds at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday July 24, 2010 • $1,000 Cash • 16 hours studio recording time from 226 Recordings (band to coordinate with studio directly); • Photo shoot with MCA Photography (band to coordinate with photographer directly); • Online promotion support from The Showgrounds on MySpace, Facebook and Twitter for July 24 th performance; • Development of basic press kit by The Showgrounds publicity and marketing staff; 2 nd Place receives: • Performance for the 2010 Verizon Wireless Summer Concert Series on the Bud Light side stage on Friday August 13 th ; • 10 Concert tickets to show of choice at The Showgrounds (2010 post-race concert series only) 3 rd Place Receives: • Performance for the 2010 Verizon Wireless Summer Concert Series on the Bud Light side stage on Friday August 13 th ; • 10 Concert tickets to show of choice at The Showgrounds (2010 post-race concert series only) DAY OF SHOW DETAILS The Battle of the Bands is part of the Verizon Wireless Summer Concert series on the Bud Light Stage. Selected finalists will perform on the Pavilion Apron side on Saturday, June 5. A representative for Sam Houston Race Park will advance the show details with each band and provide load in information as well as set time. Bands that do not show up on time will be disqualified.
Space backstage is limited therefore; we will provide 1 backstage parking pass per band. Each band will be allowed to select two other members to assist with loading and unloading gear. Each band will be allowed to have one (1) vehicle parked in the back stage area. This vehicle will be allowed in and out privileges the day of the show. Additional vehicles can be left in a satellite parking lot. General parking at The Park is FREE. We will provide quality back line for all bands to use including bass and guitar amps and cabinets. We will also provide a drum kit. Should you have any other special needs (turn tables etc.) please advise at least one (1) week before the show day. No last minute requests will be processed. There will be a stage manager clearly marked day of the show. Each band will perform 3 songs. We will cut sets off should they exceed 15 minutes and points will be taken away from your overall score. Set change will be approximately 15 minutes between bands. Bands will be allowed to sell merchandise on-site and will retain 100% of sales. Each band will be responsible for set up and tear down of their merch area. SHRP will not provide tables or additional items to you so please bring all required items to sell your merch. Judging Criteria: The Battle of the Bands will have 3-5 industry professionals to judge the contest. Judging criteria includes: • Crowd Participation • Stage Presence • Instrument and Vocal Ability • Attendance Each category offers a maximum of 10 points for a total potential overall score of 40 points. The attendance criteria will be judged solely on your band’s advanced ticket sales performance. Your score will be based on your rank, as measured by number of advanced tickets sold. The band with the most tickets sales from advance sales and day of will be given 10 points and allowed to select their performance slot. The band with the least number of ticket sales will be given 1 point. All other bands will be ranked according to their ticket sales. The winner of the competition will be announced approximately 30 minutes after the final act has performed, based on tally time. Good luck and may the best band win!
