This isn’t a new idea, and I’ve seen them in molded, hard
leather, and some made for one fit or another out of soft
nylon, but it’s the first time I’ve seen it as a family of
holsters, with an extensive fit chart. Made by Hidden Heat
Holsters (in America), this is basically a nylon box with
some plastic stiffener sewn into the nylon shell. The flap
is held closed with a magnetic snap, so you can open it
easily. There are several models, of different sizes, fitting
a pretty wide cross-section of handguns from J-frames,
Taurus Millenium Pro, Walther PPK/S, Kel-Tec P32,
Kahr CW40, small Glocks, sub-compact 1911s and
even the H&K USP Compact. The guns listed will give
you the idea of the general size range.
They are customizable in the sense you can change
the foam inserts supplied with each one to better fit the
handgun you want to carry. The one shown, the Fat Boy
seemed to be able to easily handle this Gemini Customs
2.25" J-frame. But I’d say, after examining the models, if
your chosen carry gun fits in the general size category of
one of these guns, you can find a model that would fit. In
actual use, I’d honestly say the Fat Boy is a bit on the big
size to be very discrete. If I saw this on someone’s waist
I’d wonder what they had
inside. If I were on vacation
though, I’d assume
it was a biggish camera or
something of the sort.
The smaller sizes are
less intrusive in my opinion,
and less inclined to beg to
wonder what’s inside. I think
it’s easy to just assume it’s a
phone or accessory case of some
kind. Maybe even a “man-purse”
situation, if I dare go there? I
think you’re asking a lot to carry
a J-frame or bigger auto this way,
but if you had a slim auto (think:
Kahr, Kel-Tec, Taurus SLIM, etc.) this might be a solid
option if it’s hot and you’re in the short pants and tank
top mode. There’s a left-hand option, leather, paddle
and a side-release buckle all available. Price is $59.95 at
