Applause! _____________________________________________________________ Thanks to your support, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels was among the first in line to provide support to emergency personnel and survivors of the two major disastrous weather events of 2012. Donations totaling $32,000 were made to the Red Cross and the Salvation Army just hours after the early March tornadoes. Nearly 13,000 hot meals were served as a result. The winds of Hurricane Sandy were still howling when the Honorable Order sent a $30,000 support check to the Salvation Army. Again, the money was used to feed the rescuers as well as the victims. Blankets and clean up kits were also provided. Additionally, we funded another charter flight to take WWII veterans to visit the war memorials in Washington; hundreds of indigent students were given food to take home for the weekends; we helped New Eyes for the Needy buy eyeglasses and, a first for us, we purchased dentures for some folks in Appalachia. In all, we assisted 160 plus organizations that provide education and/or assistance to children, the poor, those who are mentally or physically challenged and seniors. A detailed listing of all grants issued is available on our web site at www.kycolonels.org. We will collectively do even more good this year. When 2012 ended and all donations made during the year were totaled, the number was a magnificent $1,913,737.43. Contributions were received from 32,213 Colonels. In this report, we recognize 6,647 as Colonels of Distinction. 1
