The Musical Instrument Makers’ Dictionary is delivered as 3 spreadsheets: Persons, Corporate and
Families
Each of them is an authority file similar to those in use in all libraries catalogues.
Such catalogues commonly divide authorities into two categories: Persons and Corporate.
Having referred to the new bibliographic model: RDA (Resource Data and Access), now to be applied by
IFLA (International Federation of Libraries Associations), our working group decided to add the third one
represented, Families. This file is particularly well adapted to musical instrument makers: many musical
instruments from 17 th and 18 th century are often linked to a family of instrument makers rather than a
specific individual.
2. Spreadsheet structure:
Persons:
- Name
- Forename
- Birth date
- Death date
- Rejected forms
- Sources
- Editor (Ex: CM)
- Date of revision
- Notes (Ex: Place of activity)
