‘S<strong>co</strong>tlands Hero Captain’, 1st of branch of Stonehouse Hamiltons, killed quelling disturbance in<br />

Edinburgh. He resigned the fee of the lands of Raploch into the hands of the superior James Hamilton,<br />

Earl of Arran in favour of his brothers Thomas, Archibald and Gavin upon a charter granted to them in<br />

1521. He aquired a <strong>co</strong>nsiderable portion of lands in the barony of Stonehouse by his wife and another<br />

from his kinsman and namesake of Kinavel 1 in 1529<br />

Succeeded to estate, designated tutor of Stonehouse. He had a charter of the<br />

barony of Stonehouse in favour from a debtor in 1562 later having his lands<br />

<strong>co</strong>nfiscated for his support of Queen Mary at the Battle of Langside. He was<br />

accused in 1572 of taking part in the murder of Darley. His house in Stonehouse<br />

was burned by the English in 1570.<br />
