Rotary Club of Truro Community Yearbook - 12th Edition
Jim Gould
Club President 2014-2015
Message from our President
As President of the Rotary Club of Truro,
I am proud to welcome you to the 12th
anniversary issue of our Rotary Club’s
Community Yearbook. Members of our
community look forward to receiving this
annual publication which provides pictures
of the wonderful people and companies/
organizations they work for in Truro and
surrounding areas.
This important fundraising initiative helps us
meet our commitment to serve and support
those less fortunate in our community
and around the world. Our club has other
fundraisers that include an annual on-line Auction and this year we added a
‘Bollywood Night’. We are joined by 1.25 million Rotarians worldwide who
are committed to “Service above Self “. This sees members volunteering in
communities at home and abroad to promote peace, fight disease (with major
emphasis on the eradication of polio), provide clean water, save mothers and
children, support education and grow local economies.
Truro’s Rotary Club has been supporting the community and individuals
for 89 years. Right here in Truro and surrounding Colchester County,
the 61 members of the Rotary Club of Truro can be found contributing to
projects large and small to make people’s lives better. This may be in the
form of contributions to Maggie’s Place to provide family oriented programs,
contributions to or volunteering at the Colchester Community Workshops,
a contribution to “Bright Skies Day Camp”, assisting an individual with
unexpected medical expenses, supporting Boy Scouts with renovations to
their camp, supporting people with disabilities attend Camp Tidnish, loading
and contributing toward the shipping of a container of medical supplies to be
sent to a struggling hospital in Haiti or cleaning up the roadside.
We are also making a difference by supporting youth here and abroad. In
addition to several bursaries provided to high school students to advance
their education, we provide an international scholarship to a foreign student
attending the Dalhousie University Agricultural Campus in Truro. We sponsor
students to attend the “Adventures in Citizenship Program” in Ottawa.
We continue to sponsor youth groups at CEC and South Colchester high
schools. These Interact Clubs help participants focus on and instill a spirit
of volunteerism and service to community and the wider world. The club
also hosts an annual Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) in which youth
discuss and learn leadership skills.
Check out our activities on our website (rotarycluboftruro.ca) or Facebook
page and if you like the difference we are making, consider becoming a
member.
Thank you to all of our sponsor companies/organizations in our Yearbook.
You make it possible for the Rotary Club of Truro to continue to do good work
both locally and globally.
Message from our Chairman
As Chairman of this unique and important
Rotary fundraising project, I want to thank
those involved in all capacities. We have
heard of the saying that it takes a community
to raise a child. Looking through this 12th
edition we can say our community actively
helps each other, specifically children with
disabilities.
Many of the Businesses featured here
have been with us from the first edition
of this yearbook and we appreciate the
fact that they have taken an active role in
the development of our community. This
fact reflects the tremendous trust and confidence placed in Rotary by the
numerous business and community focused organizations that advertise in
the Yearbook. The valuable funds raised from this project have supported
countless local and international projects over the years and we are pleased
to announce that through this project we have in turn donated hundreds of
thousands of dollars to those in need.
On behalf of all Rotarians, we want to thank our advertisers for the support
they have shown to this project each year. As with any fundraising project,
we are totally dependent on the volunteer efforts of our membership. As you
look through this year’s valuable resource this coming year, I encourage you
to notice our community members and support them as they support our
community as a whole. Without your support, many of these businesses
would find it difficult to pay it forward as they have this past year.
Should you be interested in advertising and are not currently being approached
by a member of our Club, simply fill out the form found within publication
and we’ll be glad to follow up with you and share our rates and details for
the coming year. In the meantime, enjoy reading through this year’s edition
and the next time you patronize any of the businesses featured this year, pass
on your congratulations for their commitment to Rotary and people in need.
