I was so glad to hear you’d be joining us at oston Pride! What do you have in store for s? . I’m so happy to be coming back to Boston to lay Pride! It has been a long time since I played ride in Boston and it will be so fun to be back. I ill be bringing my two key Vegas dancers, Jeff nd Shawn, and we have put together something ew for the Pride shows this summer. It’s a new edley of my hits (and I’ve had a bunch of hits ince I last played Boston). We have new, cool ostumes designed in a joint venture with Brian avid and Jeff Debarathy, who is also one of y dancers and is now styling music videos for ifferent artists. Brian and Jeff did some creative ostuming. I would call it a combination of unk-Prom and Theatre. . You have what, 15 #1 Billboard Dance Hits nder your belt? Dare I say, reigning queen of he dance floor, what do you love about your udiences/fans? . I love the fact that my fans always keep n touch and write inspiring emails to me hat totally brighten my day. They are like my xtended family and they encourage me to keep oving forward with my musical ventures. It’s “It’s a new medley of my hits (and I’ve had a bunch of hits since I last played Boston). The process has been very scary for me, especially with the economic drama so I’ve really leaned on them for input. Q. After learning much about you from your website, www. kristinew.com, it seems you have a handful of passions. Tell us what it takes to tug at your heart strings. A. I started “The Inner Circle” blog which will soon be called, “Kristine Cares” because so many of my fans have the same opinions and feelings about protecting the planet and animals. It’s so important to be vocal about the issues that affect us so deeply. It’s also nice to know you’re not the only person totally freaking out over the oil spill or the abuse of animals worldwide. We must stay connected…that’s where our power to change things lies. Q. Why do you think you have such a strong presence in the gay community and what does that mean to you? A. I think I have always embraced the love that has been shown to me by the (Continued on page 14)

Continued from page 12) Q. Tell us your secret for timeless beauty! A. Champagne, chocolate, vitamins and slathering my body in weird oils, Ha! community and have stayed loyal to the many causes. I have played so many fundraisers, that I’ve lost count! Supporting the HRC, The Trevor Project, Afan, The Aids Walks and countless other organizations has taught me about compassion. I’ve met so many wonderful people who remain dear friends and have blessed my life. Q. You were named third in Billboard’s Dance/Club Play Artists of the decade behind Madonna and Beyonce. Do you ever feel pressure to live up to your musical expectations? A. I only feel pressure to continue to create because of the feedback I get from fans about the songs helping them get through life. I always want to give them hope through music, if I can. Q. You’re a strong supporter of the HRC (yes!). What do you hope for gay rights in the near future? A. I love the HRC and Joe S, the president, is a wonderful person. We have been together at many amazing galas across the country. The HRC staff is a class act!! I hope for more education about the process of coming out and on at Boston NightTimez Q. And lastly, you’ve achieved SO much in your career and life. What can we expect from you next? A. I am actually mastering my jazz album “Straight Up With a Twist,” and we are frantically working on the artwork and credits. I started this Jazz album in 2006; it’s a double album with 30 tracks total. It has been an ominous project but totally awesome! I must be nuts. The Give a Damn Campaign released its latest video in its continuing series to highlight the discrimination that the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community continues to face. The new video focuses on the verbal and physical harassment that students face each and every day because of their sexual orientation and gender identity/expression. The message is delivered by a couple of educators, a mom and celebrities, Clay Aiken, Margaret Cho, Kelly Osbourne and Kevin Alejandro. The Give a Damn Campaign, a project of Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Fund, is a bold, web-based initiative with the goal of educating and engaging the straight community in the advancement of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality. The call-to-action campaign kicked off last month with the release of its first series of videos which featured Cyndi Lauper, Elton John, Whoopi Goldberg, Jason Mraz, Cynthia Nixon, Anna Paquin, Sharon & Kelly Osbourne, Judith Light, Kim Kardashian, Clay Aiken, Wanda Sykes, Eric Roberts, and Kevin Alejandro. GLSEN (www.glsen.org) estimates that nearly 90% of gay, lesbian, biseuxal and transgender youth have been verbally or physically harassed or assaulted compared to 62% of their straight classmates. Approximately 3 out of 4 gay and transgender students are frequently called “faggot” or “dyke” at school, and almost a third of students who reported an incident of bullying said that school staff did nothing in response. “The Give a Damn Campaign urges everyone to share this video - especially with the straight people in their lives - to educate them about the need to get involved in making schools a safe place for all children to learn, to be encouraged and to grow into the people they aspire to be.” It is time for things to change.
