will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks
receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be
opened” (Matthew 7:7–8). “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians
5:17). Paul is not saying we must pray every second; He is saying that
we should not abandon praying altogether. Prayer should be part of our
everyday lives.
“You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain.
You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask
and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your
pleasures” (James 4:2–3).
Loving others.
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to
those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute
you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun
rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust
(Matthew 5:44–45).
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also
forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your
Father forgive your trespasses (Matthew 6:14–15).
Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is
the Law and the Prophets (Matthew 7:12).
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have
loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are
My disciples, if you have love for one another (John 13:34–35).
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade
itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is
not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in
the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all
things. Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail;
whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it
will vanish away (1 Corinthians 13:4–8).
Involvement with the church. When you become a Christian, the Lord
will add you to His church (Acts 2:41, 47). The Lord wills that you get
involved with the worship and the ministries of the church. As a member
of the church, you have the opportunity to draw strength from other
Christians, but other Christians also depend on drawing strength from
you. If you are involved with the church, you can help others remain
faithful and involved. If you withdraw from the church, you weaken
