Pt. <strong>Vinayak</strong> <strong>Torvi</strong>, gifted with a resonant voice with rich rhythm and melody, has been capturing music lovers<br />

all over. Born in the family of Keerankaars, he absorbed the 'Sanskaaras' of music as a child prodigy,<br />

blessed with his parents loving encouragement. Pt. <strong>Torvi</strong> began vocal lessons at a tender age of nine, from<br />

Vidwan Tammanna Gurav and then continued with Vidwans Narayanachar Dandapur and Narayan Rao<br />

Muzumdar of Dharwad. He then began 12 years of training under Gyanacharya Gururao Deshpande who was<br />

the doyen of the 'Gwalior Gharana'. He absorbed the intricate treasures of music in the Gwalior and Agra Gayaki,<br />

from Gururao. Pt. <strong>Torvi</strong> obtained Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music securing first rank, from<br />

Karnatak University, Dharwad. As a post graduate student at the university, he had the rare fortune of tutelage<br />

from stalwarts like Gangubai Hangal, Pt. Basavaraj Rajaguru, Pt. Mallikarjuna Mansoor and later with Pt.<br />

Bhimsen Joshi. He is an acclaimed All India Radio and Doordarshan artist and has participated in major music<br />

conferences and festivals all over India and world over. His love, respect and gratitude to his Guru, has<br />

blossomed into formation of the Gururao Deshpande Sangeet Sabha which works towards furthering the<br />

cause of music. He has won numerous awards including the Rajyotsava award by the govt. of Karnataka, the<br />

'Surmani' National level award by Sur Singar Sansad and the Sangeeta Ratna Chowdaiah Memorial award.<br />

child prodigy. His tutorship under the world<br />

ther blossomed as a result of constant en-<br />

daji. Recognising his interest and inclination<br />

<strong>Vinayak</strong> <strong>Torvi</strong>.Dattatreya is one of the illustrious<br />

students of the revered music teacher. Pt. <strong>Vinayak</strong> <strong>Torvi</strong> has blessed Dattatreya with Gandabandhan<br />

Deeksha. He is Graded artiste of All India Radio Dharwad.<br />

Gurumurthy Vaidya was born<br />

and raised in the district of North<br />

Canara district and is an accom-<br />

plished tabla player by profession.<br />

Being guided initially by Shri G G<br />

Hegde, Yellapur and Pt.Basavaraj<br />

Bendigere, Dharwad, he is now<br />

under the tutelage of Pt.Ravindra<br />

Yavagal, Bangalore. With his own<br />

interest, Shri Gurumurthy Vaidya<br />

has gained a good knowledge and<br />

control over Vocal Music, Pakhawaj,<br />

Chende, Mrudanga, other rhyth-<br />

mic instruments along with Tabla.<br />

Laya Vinyasa, is a popular pro-<br />

gramme experimented and popularised<br />

by him with performing all<br />

the above instruments with / without<br />

vocal support. A B-High grade<br />

Tabla artist of AIR, Bangalore and<br />

TV artist has performed world- wide and has accompanied the<br />

greatest musicians. He has com-<br />

posed and directed music for many<br />

commercial CDs and music pro-<br />

jects.
