EDWIN Director
Indonesia’s leading art house talent, Edwin, 36, was his
country’s first filmmaker to compete at the Berlin Film Festival
when his ethereal feature, Postcards From the Zoo, debuted
there in 2012. He currently is at work on the follow-up, the
’40s-era period piece Exotic Pictures, which won the ARTE
International Prize at the Asian Project Market in 2013.
BRILLANTE MENDOZA Director
Already something of an elder statesman of the Filipino art
house, Mendoza, 54, has directed 16 films since his 2005
debut. He returns to Cannes as the only Southeast Asian
director in the lineup besides Weerasethakul. His latest film,
Taklub, centers on the survival and recovery from Super
Typhoon Haiyan, which devastated the country in 2013.
ANTHONY CHEN Director/Producer
Singaporean Chen’s directorial debut, Ilo Ilo, won
the Camera d’Or at Cannes in 2013. He’s since launched
Giraffe Pictures, a production company that in
March finished shooting its first project, the pan-Asian
omnibus Distance, which the 31-year-old Chen
executive produced.

Director/International Marketing Head
Thongkongtoon, 48, handles all international sales for GTH,
which currently reigns as Thailand’s hottest studio (2013’s
Pee Mak was Thailand’s highest-grossing film of all time at
$33 million). Thongkongtoon also is a veteran filmmaker
(2000’s Iron Ladies; 2006’s Best of Times) and chairman of
the Thai Directors Association.

Thic Bich Ngoc has had a hand in both Vietnam’s art house and
commercial successes of late. In 2014, she produced director
Victor Vu’s Vengeful Heart, which became Vietnam’s highestgrossing
film ever. She also is a partner in leading regional
production services firm Indochina Productions, which
arranged the South Asian shoot of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
