The School Sisters’ ministry is directed toward education. For
them that means enabling persons to reach the fullness of their
potential as individuals created in God's image and assisting
them to direct their gifts toward building the earth.
Committed to this goal, the School Sisters respond to varying
needs of church and world through a diversity of ministries.
They strive to live and work in ways that reflect and promote
the values Christ lived and taught.
The School Sisters of Notre Dame’s common heritage and
charism, their community life and mission promote and
strengthen the unity which binds the Sisters—across nations
and cultures–to Christ, to one another and to the people to
whom they are sent.
Today the Milwaukee province, with its 480 professed sisters
and almost 50 associates, is part of the International Congregation
of the School Sisters of Notre Dame headquartered in
Rome. More than 4,000 sisters—members of 20 provinces, two
regions, and two districts—minister in 35 countries.
