MAP’s Public Policy program connected citizens to their<br />

elected officials through grassroots organizing and built strong<br />

partnerships and coalitions that share common policy goals.<br />

MAP <strong>AIDS</strong>Line responded<br />

phone, online chats,<br />

email or drop-in visits,<br />

and provided HIV-related<br />

education to 17,500<br />

unique visitors to the<br />

MAP Web site.<br />

MAP <strong>AIDS</strong>LINE<br />

• Created and maintains a<br />

comprehensive database of<br />

statewide HIV prevention and care<br />

resources that is available online<br />

through MAP’s Web site and in book<br />

format. In 2008, 2,330 copies of the<br />

Resource Guide were distributed<br />

free of charge, statewide.<br />

• Distributed 4,849 pieces of HIV<br />

educational material to the<br />

general public.<br />

• Delivered basic HIV education inperson<br />

to 3,076 individuals at health<br />

fairs, speaking engagements and<br />

other community events.<br />

• The <strong>AIDS</strong>Line’s Quick Connect<br />

program saw 140 HIV-positive<br />

people. This service meets with<br />

individuals to link them to medical<br />

and other health or social service<br />

care. Often these are individuals<br />

who are newly diagnosed, have<br />

recently moved to <strong>Minnesota</strong>, or<br />

who may not have received HIV<br />

related care for some time. MAP<br />

<strong>AIDS</strong>Line staff use their broad<br />

knowledge of the services available<br />

to link them to programs that<br />

will most appropriately meet<br />

their needs.<br />

• Responded to 3,897 contacts via<br />

phone, online chats, email or dropin<br />

visits, and provided HIV-related<br />

education to 17,500 unique visitors<br />

to the MAP Web site.<br />

• Developed Web based programming<br />

to assist individuals in assessing<br />

their HIV risk and to help HIVpositive<br />

people in developing a<br />

strategy for accessing services.<br />

People accessing the MAP Web site<br />

may also interact with <strong>AIDS</strong>Line<br />

educators in real time through use<br />

of the new chat feature.<br />

MAP HOUSING SERVICES<br />

• Assisted 80 HIV-positive individuals<br />

plus an additional 48 family<br />

members in finding and maintaining<br />

housing.<br />

• Worked with clients to understand<br />

their rights and responsibilities as<br />

renters as well as ways to work on<br />

housing related problems in order<br />

to avoid crises that could lead to<br />

homelessness.<br />

MAP EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE<br />

• Provided assistance to 1,354<br />

low-income individuals from<br />

throughout <strong>Minnesota</strong>.<br />

MAP TRANSPORTATION<br />

• Provided 352 individuals with<br />

transportation services including<br />

distribution of 949 bus cards, along<br />

with a total of 3,832 door-to-door<br />

rides.<br />
