Since 1993, we have been making waterproof capes for chair users who need to keep warm and dry without pulling on a heavy 

winter coat. Made of waterproof fabrics with a sense of style, they avoid putting the arms in sleeves or forcing a heavy coat into a 

molded chair back. The capes for both winter and rain come in 6 sizes and a multitude of colors. We are the only manufacturer 

who has more than two sizes and who uses genuine waterproof fabric and domestic fleece. This year, we are able to use 300 

weight Polartec fleece on several of our lining colors. Our capes last for years and are custom made in colors of your choosing. 

We do several customizations free of charge.

The photos show how the sides of the cape skirt the wheels on a manual chair. The dimensions of the standard patterns are in the 

chart. We have several sizes of hoods, from toddler to XL, to accommodate small or large heads, or those who wish to put their 

headrest in the hood. We can omit the hood and make a collar if there are switches in the headrest. We can shorten the back if 

the headrest obstructs the back cape extension. We can omit the front zipper for chewers, and insert a velcro overlap for closure. 

We have decided not to open the pocket flaps. Electric chair users can easily bring the arms out from the sides to drive. The capes 

are machine washable on warm. Do not dry clean them. All of our colors are waterproof except: green teal, bronze, light gray, 

digital camo, berry, and neon pink. If water is allowed to pool on the fabric on a level surface, it will eventually penetrate.

Ultrex Supplex Raincape 

Our rain cape suits warmer weather where only waterproofing is needed. The sizes and colors of the raincape are identical to the 

wintercape. The raincape can be rolled like a taco and fitted into a backpack. It can be machine washed on warm (not hot!) 

without losing its waterproofing. We monogram both the winter and rain capes in any short phrase, initials, or first or last name, to 

keep it from being stolen. The monogram is on the shoulder in the colors of the cape front. See the example provided above. We 

avoid the water resistant colors in the raincape. For example, light gray and digital camo should not be chosen, nor berry and 

pink- the berry is not waterproof. We customize the raincape in the same ways as we customize the wintercape.

Cape back extends behind the 

chair. 

Since 1993, we have made Polartec lined wintercapes for people who use wheelchairs, with thousands of happy customers. 

After many requests over the years for Adrian to make a waterproof cape that also would also serve ambulatory people, we are 

proud to announce the Stadium Cape, #316. As a huge sports fan, Adrian has chosen bright colors. The stadium cape is a warm, 

durable, sleeveless coat for inclement weather that fits walkers at least 5’ 3”, or larger chair users who want a longer back. The 

outer layer of this cape is waterproof nylon. It repels water, traps body heat, and breathes. Vinyl or plastic capes get hot because 

they don’t breathe, and tend to crack and stain. The lining is domestic fleece, the finest available. Foreign fleece is thinner, does 

not trap body heat, and pills. Waterproof breathable fabric is lustrous, soft, and quiet, lasts for years, and machine washes well. 

Our fleece lining is the finest fleece on the market today. Our wheelchair customers replace their capes after years, when they 

have been worn daily and washed many times.

Those who have trouble getting a coat on, bicyclists, larger chair users, and those post upper body surgery, will all appreciate the 

stadium cape. It is 39” front and back and 54” wide, with a solid color front, back and hood, a brighter shoulder color, and a white 

accent across each shoulder for a sporty look. Front pockets hold keys, money, or tickets. A grab loop at each wrist keeps the 

cape close to the body. The bright colors make for great visibility on city streets. The lining is 200 or 300 weight Polartec fleece. 

The hood fits a larger head 22-24” without blowing off. Smaller heads may have to wear a cap under the hood to fix it firmly. The 

hood keeps sleet and rain out of the eyes. Smaller heads should fold the front of the hood back while in motion. A 22” front zipper 

makes easy on and off. An ambulatory wearer must be at least 5’ 3” not to trip on the front. The seated back covers the back 

thigh and to mid calf in front. Chair users who desire a longer back on their cape must put the back out behind them, as it will not 

fit in a molded seat. The stadium cape is machine washable on warm on the gentle cycle. Remove from the dryer before quite dry 

and hang. Do not dry clean. $165

#320 - Polartec Fleece Fling 

A great idea for just running down to the mailbox, or 

if it’s cold in the morning, but warm in the afternoon. 

Unzip the 12” front zipper, and either lean forward, or 

lift the cape over your head. Pull down the 21” back 

extension behind you, or let it go out over the chair. 

The sides are short, so it doesn’t impede movement 

or give the feeling of being trapped in something 

heavy. Can be rolled like a taco and stuffed in a 

backpack. So much easier than forcing the arms into 

sleeves! Useful also as a lining for the wintercape in 

bitter weather. Putting the Fleece Fling under the 

wintercape means that you are warm below zero. 

Most colors are 200 weight, but some (white, pink, 

gray blue, black) are 300 weight. Tunic collar. Vanilla,

Designed with a longer back for a chair user. 

Dress without standing or drawing the garment 

across the back. Unzip the front and lay it in 

the chair, with fabric hanging over the back. 

Bring up the two bottoms of the front zipper. Sit 

in the chair on the caftan and insert your arms 

in the sleeves. Insert the zipper head into the 

other side and zip. You’re dressed! Women’s 

caftan is royal blue knit with a royal and black 

filigree pattern in the bodice. The men’s 

caftan is black knit with a dark blue camo 

bodice. The bodice is 100% woven cotton, 

and the knit is 50-50% cotton/polyester. Zip up 

the zipper before you wash on warm on the

Front or Back Open 

Soft, stretchy interlock knit boxers for sitters who cath themselves, use a urinal, or want to save outerwear from scrubbing. Like sitter 

pants, the boxers are lower in front and higher in the back. The elastic waistband opens center front with a 1” horizontal piece of 

hook and loop. As you pull open the waist tab, it opens 1-2 small tabs of vertical hook and loop running down the front opening, 

waist to crotch seam. Open the waist, or leave it closed and open a lower gripper square for access where you need it. Black,

Our E Z Topps feature a knit yoke and a panel of thick 

13 ounce pima cotton terry velour to soak up juices. 

Youth size measures 13” x 24” long. 15” from the 

bottom front of the neck rib to the bottom. Covers the 

arms and reaches the thighs of a small adult. Adult 

size measures 17” wide by 30” long. It covers neck to 

thighs of large adults. Discrete- looking in solid dark 

colors, it appears to be a vest to the casual observer.

We offer stonewashed denim, black or indigo blue stretch denim; brushed navy, khaki, gray or 

black bull denim; stretch twill in olive, black, navy, khaki, navy, distressed navy, charcoal or light 

gray; knit and fleece. Fleece is the fabric of sweats, but we don’t use the narrow elastic and the 

elasticized cuffs of sweatpants. Interlock knit is soft and stretchy, but not recommended for nursing 

homes or wearing outdoors.

Before buying sitter pants... 

Non-refundable: Inseams or waists less than 30”, or greater than 48”, or custom alterations and options. Be sure of your size before 

placing your order. If you need a waist larger than 48”, please contact us. 

We make our pants from fine 8 ounce cotton twill. You can find 5-7 ounce twill pants in the store, or from our competitors online. 

They will wear out on a sitter. If you order from our competitors, you will receive the order quicker because the pants came off the 

shelf. We have a waiting list, and we can’t start your order until your name comes up. Because we make each pant custom, we 

can alter basic patterns for the figures of those who can’t exercise. Many people who sit for years tend to have equal hips and 

waist. If you can measure your hips 7” down from your waist, we can adjust the pant waist to fit. 

If you have a child with a waist above 40” and 22” long legs, you will have to compromise. The legs are too short to taper 

adequately down, and the hips may be too wide, regardless of working with a smaller pattern and adding to the waist. 

We examined the sizes of popular brands of men’s regular fit, medium priced slacks. Regardless of the waist size, 25” thighs were 

standard. The seated figure needs more room in the thigh. When you sit, the back of the thigh comes forward and spreads, and 

the buttocks are pushed backward. The legs end at the hem at 10” across, or 20” around, regardless of size. Our pant leg tapers to 

the hem and becomes progressively wider as the waist size increases. We will trim the legs or widen them at no charge. Measuring 

lying down gives a true waist measurement. Our prices are based on yards of fabric and time spent, but we need the waist and 

hip measurement 7” down from the waist. All of our stretch twill, stretch denim, or fleece stretches 1” at the waist. Bull denim or 

stonewashed denim does not stretch. Order stonewashed jeans 1” larger in the waist. We make pants 1” longer than ordered in 

case of shrinkage.

Sitter Shorts 

Our shorts are styled like our sitter pants - all elastic waist and a fly down to the crotch seam, in a variety of colors and fabrics. 

Choose from stretchy knit, heavier bull denim, distressed twill, regular twill (Dockers), stonewashed denim (like Wranglers), knit, or 

fleece (sweatshirt fabric). If you don't specify an inseam, we hem to 12", to the top of the knee on a 6' man. Tell us the length you 

like, whether 10" (short), 12" (average), 14" (longer) or 16" (over the knee). Optional side zippers or front fly. 

Walker Pants and Shorts 

Walker pants and shorts are for ambulatory people who have trouble with studs and zippers. They are nearly even in the front and 

the back rise. We make them to your specified waist and inseam (inside leg length). The fabrics are stretch denim, stonewashed 

denim, brushed bull denim, twill, knit, and fleece. Each has hip pockets and a front fly with squares of hook and loop running down 

the length of the opening, spaced on the fabric, so the fly folds naturally when you sit. Smaller squares of grippers don’t make 

noise or buckle when joined the way one long strip does. The waist is all elastic. The elastic on the heavier denim is firmer than the 

soft elastic on the stretch or knit fabrics, so the waist may feel more snug on the heavier denim. Order the size that corresponds to 

your waist and leg length. If you need pull loops or belt loops, be sure to specify. Order by waist measurement taken standing. Our 

walker pants are comparable in fit to other pants you may have purchased. Non-returnable. Please be sure of your size by

you arrive! Navy, gray, purple, black, mocha, and dark green. Comes up to the 

thighs, which hold it in place. Machine washable. Do not dry clean. Not 

reversible, as the waterproofing is on the outside. Small is 18” wide (36” around) x

1 - Pants: Velcro on the outside or inside seam of pants is hard to line up, noisy to open, and uncomfortable at the crotch and hip. 

Long strips of velcro buckle when lined up. Opening the inseam of pants to make them easier to access is a problem. Velcro is 

uncomfortable, snaps fail, and zippers pinch or break. The “front drop” technique is better. Snaps running down the outside seam 

of each leg means at least 24 snaps that need snapping and unsnapping on each leg after each change. Sometimes the male 

snap goes in the female and will not come unsnapped. Sometimes the male snap Is not machined correctly, and will not go in. 

Then, the 2” gap in the outside seam leg seam is expensive to fix. Pants which say they can be put on while the person is seated 

require an assistant. If there are overlaps that snap or velcro into place, an attendant must smooth the extra fabric under the 

person’s rear while lifting them up. If the attendant can’t stay all day, the person will be unable to reach behind them to undo the 

snaps or velcro to get the flaps open. 

2 - Dresses: Back overlap dresses that apparently can be put in while seated in a wheelchair are deceiving. They require the 

assistance of an attendant. If the dress is put on in the bed, and the person transferred to the chair, the back overlap will be under 

the person’s rear. Help is needed in transferring to the toilet to get the overlap out of the way. If the back overlap dress is put on 

while the person is seated in a wheelchair, the back overlap will either: gather as extra fabric at the hip if the person can’t move or 

be moved; require considerable effort in rotating to the opposite hip while trying to pull the overlap under the rear. Wrinkles under 

the bottom will cause problems later. Instead of a dress, look for a wrap that velcros at the waist or a caftan with a full front zipper. 

This caftan can be placed in the wheelchair and the person placed on it. It is then zipped up. 

3 - Bibs: Waterproof fabrics are almost all nylon. A cotton fabric is probably not waterproof. A bib made of flannel, cotton, jersey, 

or polyester will allow liquids to skate down the front and pool in the lap, and is not waterproof. Terrycloth is the most absorbent 

fabric, and it has gotten very expensive. To capture liquids, terrycloth is a must. 

4 - Custom Patterns: Custom patterns are expensive, over $300. In certain situations- waist larger than hips; front rise too short 

compared to the back; or, a large waist with short legs (25”), for example, one dimension will have to be larger than ideal to make 

the adaptations. A 40” waist pattern has wide hips and 27” thighs. The average large child has 20” thighs. Even with severe 

trimming of the legs, a 40” pattern is too deep in the rise and wide in the legs for a child with a 40” waist. The leg width at the hem 

would be 11”, instead of 7” across, finished. If ordering a custom pattern, use a local person so it can be adjusted.
