Staying Current in a Rapidly Changing
Regulatory Environment
So many pharmacists that provide compounding
services, regardless of the level of complexity of
that activity, are unaware of the extensive federal
and state regulatory changes which have occurred
subsequent to the enactment of the Drug Quality
& Security Act of 2013. This session is designed
to provide clear explanations about those new laws
and regulations - and revised practice standards -
to both protect the pharmacist’s practice as well as
the patients that they serve.
Testing and Equipment - Unraveling
the Mystery
Testing and inspection are a critical part of assuring
the quality of compounded medications and
the safety of patients. However, it is also a fairly
expensive exercise. Therefore, it is critical for
pharmacists to know what to test, when to test and
who should do the testing. This session will examine
these quality improvement measures, identifying
what type of equipment is needed, when
testing should be outsourced and when it can be
done in house, and the difference between potency
and stability studies.
