Creating a
better everyday
life in our local
communities
The Life Improvement Co-worker Challenge is
one way IKEA stores in the US are making a
difference right in our own backyards. Since 2011,
our co-workers have been rising to the challenge
by nominating local charities to receive makeovers
for spaces that help them improve the lives of
others in their local communities.
Using our knowledge of life at home, we have
created functional and inviting spaces for over
120 local charities across the US. In
Conshohocken, Pennsylvania we furnished
a residential space for sustainable farming
apprentices. A safe house for homeless women
and children received a makeover in Burbank, CA.
Co-workers in Schaumburg, Illinois redesigned
bedrooms, a study area and a common room in
a residential treatment center for kids affected by
severe abuse and neglect. In Orlando, Florida we
furnished a drop-in center that provides shelter
for homeless LGBT youth.
And pictured here is a project completed by
co-workers in Carson, California. They designed a
space where students at an environmental charter
school work, socialize, share sustainable solutions
and teach community sustainability workshops.
A hundred
million happy stories
By 2015, the IKEA Foundation will have improved the lives of 100 million
children living in the world's poorest communities. By picking the right
partners and thinking long-term, we can:
• Help refugee children and families create better lives
• Fight the root causes of child labor
• Empower women and girls
Since 2004, we've been helping children with basic necessities such as a
safe home, a healthy start in life, a quality education and a steady family
income. And, in the years to come, the IKEA Foundation will help children
and families to build their own foundation for a better life.
A better IKEA catalog
The 2015 IKEA catalog is the largest print production ever to be printed on
100% Forest Stewardship Council Mix Credit paper and labelled with the
FSC logo. This means that the entire IKEA catalog production chain, from
forest to printer, is FSC-certifed to ensure a more sustainable origin of the wood.
IKEA is committed to sustainable forestry and all wood raw material in the
IKEA range must meet our forestry standards. We also work with the Forest
Stewardship Council and other partners to make sure our wood is sourced from
responsibly managed and certifed forests. Our 2017 goal is that at least half of
the wood raw material in the IKEA range will be from more sustainable sources
(defned as FSC certifed or recycled wood). Once this 2017 goal is met, we will
re-evaluate these criteria. Our ambition for 2020 is to reach 100%.
After you've enjoyed it, please recycle this catalog.
