am honored to have
received the ADRC scholarship! I only wish I could
have been at the National Show in Michigan this year to
receive it, unfortunately I wasn’t able to because of
obligations with school. I have been at Ohio University for
almost a full year now, and I have come to the realization
that the next three years will only be more challenging than
this one. As scared as that makes me I am also excited
because in just three more years I will have a degree in
Social Work and go on to help people by doing something
I am passionate about. That to me is worth the hours of
studying, writing papers, and attending classes. I would not
be where I am today without my experiences that I have
had through raising and showing rabbits with my family.
When we started out with just a few Dutch rabbits to show
at the local fair I don’t think any of us imagined that we
would be where we are today, with a barn full and attending
National shows every year and local shows every
weekend. I am grateful for all the things that I have learned
from raising rabbits and all the wonderful people I have
met. It has taught me responsibility and given me a good
work ethic. It has enabled me to see parts of the country
that I otherwise probably would have never gone to. I have
friends in many states across the US that I keep in touch
with throughout the year and look forward to seeing at the
national shows and if it weren’t for being a member of the
ADRC and raising Dutch rabbits I would have never met
those people. My dad has also been very supportive and
involved with our rabbitry, without him I would not be as
successful not only in showing rabbits but in life. He has
pushed me to be the best that I can be in everything that I
do and because of that I am a stronger person. So once
again I would like to thank my parents for everything that
they have done for me, without there support and guidance
I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
2007 NDS
Ladies Choice Fun Class

When I was approached to judge the Ladies Choice
Fun Class at this Years NDS show in Kalamazoo,
I must admit I was curious...It was a "Ladies Choice", after
all...and I am "no" lady.
Was it because I have shapely calves that look great in
a pair of Jimmy Choo or Manolo Blahnik pumps????
.....(don't ask)...or was it because I am a sensitive, New
Millennium guy who is in touch with his feminine side? ...No
matter..I agreed, I thought we will just make it a funny friday
night Fun class, but when I approached the table I saw
some 25 plus animals waiting and at least as many
exhibitors with a look of deadly earnest and anticipation on
their faces, I soon realized I better put on My judges hat
and get serious, besides several of the ladies looked at me
like they wanted to rip My face off..I have seen this look
many times in My social ife...lol...darn testosterone..it's a
curse. Anyway...it took sometime, because I soon realized
these were not your typical fun class animals..these were
top quality Dutch. I finally placed the top Ten animals all of
these were Best of Breeds or soon would be. My winner
was a Gray Junior Doe exhibited by a Youth breeder and
this animal went on Saturday to be Best of Breed - Youth,
I want to thank everyone involved it was a fun evening and
I hope to be asked to judge one of these fun classes again
someday.
