Conference will provide a collaborative approach to
supporting pediatric health care providers in the
identification and support of children and youth with special
health care needs in Prince George’s County Maryland.
Child health care providers are the stewards of the health
of all children. This is an awesome privilege with great
responsibility, which at times can be intimidating because it
requires an in depth knowledge of child development. This
conference will educate community physicians and related
providers about:
1. The American Academy of Pediatrics Guidelines on Standardized
Developmental and Autism Screening.
2. The Prince George’s County Special Needs Identification Physician
Support Program (PGCSNIPS).
3. Child Developmental Milestones and the Red flags of atypical
development, including the early presentation and characteristics of
children with autism that warrant further investigation and referral.
4. Web-based Comprehensive Screening through CHADIS.
5. The new focus and components of the Prince George’s County Infants
and Toddlers Program and the correct and most efficient manner to
refer children with suspected special needs to this early intervention
program.
6. The challenges that families of children with special needs face within
the medical home; and simples ways to make the office environment
more amenable for these children and their families.
7. The community organizations and resources that are available to assist
providers in building great medical homes in Prince George’s County,
Maryland.
