This carrier was established in 1997 as Air Cairo in conjunction
with a consortium of Egyptian travel agents, to operate
inclusive tours within Egypt and to Europe and Africa.
The initial fleet comprised two Tupolev Tu-204-120s. This
eventually grew to five aircraft, including two cargo-configured
Tu-204-120Cs.
In 2003 EgyptAir acquired 100% of Air Cairo and the existing
Tupolev fleet and operations were then transferred to
a new company, Cairo Aviation, which is now owned by the
Kato Group and EgyptAir.
In 2005 one of the three passenger-configured aircraft
was placed in storage while the two remaining passenger
aircraft were wet-leased out to Mahan Air, of Iran. Since that
date, Cairo Aviation’s remaining active fleet of two passenger
and two freighter Tu-204s have continued to be operated
overseas on lease.
