The Problem
Each year, thousands of newly hatched sea turtles are drawn to coastal white
lights, created by buildings and roads, drawing them away from moonlit water.
As a result, many turtles do not make it out to sea.
The Solution
In many cases, many cities and municipalities have stepped-in and established
ordinances that require property owners to install turtle-friendly lights
themselves. In other cases, property owners have stepped-up and installed the
“turtle lights” themselves to protect the turtles.
Stonelight solves the problem with a dark Amber LED concealed light source
that’s invisible to turtles so it offers the perfect lighting fixture that is code
compliant while enhancing the beauty of your landscape.
Approved by the Florida
Fish and Wildlife
Conservation Commission
Teamed with the US Fish and Wildlife Service to develop a Wildlife Certification
Program where strict criteria must be met by lighting manufacturers to
be certified. The program is designed to educate the public, the building
industry and government officials on the importance of minimizing the
impact of artificial light.
lamp at 5’-0 from the light source
thus providing human safety while
remaining invisible to turtles.
